They expanded their sphere of journalism to include an education issue of the entire community through an in-depth report on District 150's tax referendum. VARSITY DEBATORS: Maria Lucas and Dave Weidman. Not Pictured: Stewnrt Fergu- on, and Chase Johnson. Debate while providing a source of activity, also enriches the stu- dent's background. The areas of research tech- niques, public speaking, and general knowledge are developed and uti- lized during the debate season. The Varsity Squad attained high honors by capturing first place rankings in the MS9 championship, ISTA and IHSA Section- als, and N. I. U. Tour- ney. Achieving speaker awards given to the most outstanding speak- ers at several of the major tournaments were Tim Hoerr, Shawn Mur- phy, and Jim Kreiss.
