Ullrick has served as the attorney for the Board of Education since the district was organized in 1951. Mr. William O. Lowery has served as a member of the Board of Education and is now the treasurer for the Richwoods Community High School District and several of the underlying elementary districts. Members of the Board of Education are elected by the public for a three year term. They meet twice a month in regular meetings, and establish the policy upon which the school operates. Through their efforts a new addition to the present building will lx built and completed by I960. The cost of the new addition will be $975,000.00. It will include fourteen new class rooms, an addition to the library, an addition to the study hall, a crafts class room, three science laboratories, an addition to the counseling and guidance area, and an addition to both the boys’ and girls' locker rooms. We, the student body, appreciate the Board of Education’s efforts in taking the necessary leadership in the community to make it possible for us to have the best educational opportunities available. 6 Mr. WAYNE CRAWFORD Assistant Superintendent and Business Manager Mr. FRED Mr-DAVID Superintendent Our very capable administration staff has certainly helped all of the RICHWOODS’ KNIGHTS to have a more successful and eventful year, both in activities and in academic work. Last year, because of our fine superin- tendent. MR. FRED C. McDAVID, and our other three administrators’ great desire to make Rich woods a rep- utable school, they set the high scholastic standards that we have at our school. With the fine thinking and coop- eration of the Community, Board of Education, the ad- ministrative staff, the faculty, and everyone else who as- sisted in making Richwoods Community High a superior school, R.C.H.S. was accepted as an accredited school by the North Central Association and the Illinois State Department of Public Instruction. An accreditation the first year of any new school is a rarity. We consider this an honor to have been accepted so soon. MR. WAYNE CRAWFORD, Business Manager and As- sistant Superintendent, has aided Mr. McDavid with many important business matters. He has supervised the cafeteria program, bus transportation, maintenance, and the purchasing of all the equipment for the school. His coojx-ration with our superintendent can be seen through- out our two profitable years. MR. RICHARD ERZEN, Administrative Assistant, Dean of Boys, and Director of Guidance, and MISS HELEN CURRAN, Dean of Girls, have counselled us with all of our problems. Their leadership, patience and understanding have guided us through all of our difficulties during the past two years. We owe so much to our excellent administrative staff and want to thank them for their help in making us better stu- dents and KNIGHTS today, as well as citizens of to- morrow. The Cafeteria manager, Mrs. LYDIA LEHMAN has planned wholesome and nourishing meals, and her assistants have aided her in serving for the special programs at school, as well as the school lunches. These women have given their time in the evenings to prepare the food for special dinners and banquets. We KNIGHTS have been pleasantly surprised at Thanksgiving and Christmas when the menu has included turkey, dress- ing, and all the trimmings. The manager of the bus maintenance, Mr. WILLIAM II. Our first task as a class in our new school was to elect the class officers and student council members. Then the selection of our class rings, a difficult but important decision, was made. The climactic event was the Junior-Senior Prom, which the class of 59” successfully sponsored. Under the capable leadership of our advisor, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Richardson, and our assistant advisor, Mr. Kenneth Barton, last years activities were very profitable. As seniors, we eagerly started to school this fall with many plans for our last and most important year. The senior highlights this year have been many and varied. Leading our class were John Blossom, Jr., president, Bob Creamer, vice president, Lee Ann Culmer, secretary, and Bill Ruther- ford. treasurer. Some of our senior class members were honored to be chosen physical education leaders. Preparing for college, under the direction of Miss Helen Curran, Dean of Girls, and Mr. Richard Erzen, Director of Guidance, we attended College Day and Scholarship Night where we learned about the various colleges and the scholarships available to us. The Campus Caper’s and Susy Secretary's potluck dinners, advised by Miss Helen Curran, were held for the girls planning college or business careers. A number of our class members were awarded scholarships for their academic efforts. The first dance of tin- school year, sponsored by the senior class and the first Homecoming Dance, sponsored by our fine Student Council, were very successful affairs. We were all pleased with Kichwoods first Homecoming Queen, Mary Gummcrson, who was crowned by Dan Sills, Student Council President, and her equally beautiful senior court, Nancy Barker, Lee Ann Culmer, Donna Ginthcr, Lucia Meyer, Jan Moreland, Gail Rubin, and Sue Ward. The girls’ escorts were Ken Allen, John Blossom. Jr.. Mike Few, Steve Giddan, Dean Jameson, Wheeler McDougal, Jr., Tom Morgan, and Chris Roby. After working so diligently, we thrilled to receive first place in the float contest. The senior banquet, dance, and all the graduation cere- monies will be cherished by all of us for a lifetime. Our energetic advisor and assistant advisor, Mr. Allen Mettcr- nich and Mr. Leonard Korgic, truly helped us to have recognized academic and social achievements throughout the year. We seniors have sincerely enjoyed attending such a fine school as Kichwoods Community High. We certainly will remember our alma mater and intend to return to see all the progress made, and recall the pleasant memories of our high school davs. ANDY ALBRIGHT B;isketball; Golf : Cross-Country. Last year we presented the pep as- sembly, “This Is Your Life, Mr. Henderson.” We cer- tainly had fun at our two class mixers last year, too. This year, our class officers have been Duke Zeller, President; Bobette Furst, Vice-President; Sally Spen- cer, Secretary; and Susan Leach, Treasurer. The theme for our homecoming float was “Toasting Our Victory.” The big event this year was the Junior-Senior Prom. We presented our class play “The Curious Savage” under the direction of Mr. Donald Marine. Also, we worked at the concession stand during the football and basketball games. A great deal of credit for our outstanding Prom as well as our prosperous year goes to our two class sponsors, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Richardson and her assistant, Mr. Ralph Everson. This has certainly been an cvcntablc and an unforgettable year, and one which we all shall cherish. 4 Bobette Furst 53 Sally Spencer Susan Leach Janncttc Augsburgcr Gary Baglcy Nancy Baglcy Bill Bailey Suzanne Ball Sandra Barber John Barrette 54 Tom Bliss 55 Larry Benson Diana Blackford Kathy Bontjes Perri Boodner George Box Dave Brayshaw Dianne Bour Judy Brincy I.inda Brockmcycr THe «JUfsUOfc class cxiessNrs 11 THE CUfRiOUS SAVAGE BY TQHA PATRICKS- vovewase 20 and. 2i Ar aiCHwooos coNVMuwtrv HlOM SCHOOU Steve Bullock 56 Ernie Bsehor Boh Bulach Keith Burger Sharon Camp Carol Callear Al Collins Terry Collinson Torry Collinson Junior class practicing for their production of The Curious Savage.' 'One way traffic, girls.' s4ctcuitie iNfeaNATlONAt Dan Sills has done a remarkable job this year as President of the Student Council. 1 le has a fine character and an outstand- ing jxTsonality. We Knights are extremely proud of our school, and Dan has really set a wonderful example of Richwoods’ character and hits certainly been a credit to the class of 1959. STEVE GIDDAN Vice-President i r 'i.-: 1 C' N« - • _ MR. VIPONI) Assistant Sponsor MR. F.RZF.N Sponsor The members of the Student Council, the student representative body of our school, have considered it a great honor to have been elected by the Kichwoods students this past year. The Knights of Kichwoods have put their faith in the Student Council by selecting these people to represent and serve them. These stu- dents must have high scholastic standings and unusual and outstanding character- istics because they set the example of our school. The members of this governing body, guided by Mr. Erzen, s| onsor, and Mr. Vipond, assistant sponsor, have planned many ol the activities and social events of the year. They scheduled the Christ- mas and Spring Dances, the After-Game Dances, and the Vice Versa Dances, the Homecoming celebrations, which included the dance, the parade, and the football game, all of which were a great success. All of the credit for the world clothing drive, the food baskets project, and the clean up week, goes to these fine students. These people have also taken care of the selling of the school supplies, the printing of the student directory, and die lost and found department. Next year the Student Council plans to sponsor a foreign exchange student. The Kichwoods Knights have been very proud of their Student Council this past war. W j y : Steve Giddan.
