Much time and effort is required to produce a good annual. This work is worth-while when students have given freely of time, energy and talents, not only for personal satisfaction, but also for their group, team and school. The spark of initiative, the self-determination to succeed, and the unselfish sharing of rewards are traits that must be preserved if we are to continue to grow and prosper. I would like to convey my best personal regards to each student, those who are graduating and those who will be returning to Richwood High School next fall. May each of you continue to feel the urge to do, to serve, and to achieve through hard work, honest dealings, and wise judgments. Sincerely, Richard D. Fetter, Superintendent LEFT TO RIGHT: Russell Roberts, Ernest Wasserbeck, David Glann, Dr. Holcomb, President; Paul Hoffman, Vice- President; Kenny Kyle, Clerk; Richard Fetter, Superintendent. Board of Education Meeting in our Richwood High School Board room on the third Monday night of each month, these men establish our school policy. It is this policy that guides our lives for the nine short months of our school year. Every new plan that will affect the members of Richwood High School comes before our Board of Education. Representing the citizens of the community, the Board of Education is a link between the public and the school. The responsibility to the state and to the community for the operation of the Richwood Local School System falls upon the shoulders of these seven men. To the Board of Education of Richwood High School, we the students, the beneficiaries of your efforts, say a hearty and sincere Thank you. 4 FACULTY MRS. MARIAN COCHRAN B.Sc. Upperclassmen—at last! But as juniors we found that the title of upperclassmen meant more activities, more responsibilities, and harder work. This year, junior athletes played Varsity football and basketball. For others, much time was spent making the Junior Play a success. Class rings were ordered and everyone waited impatiently until their arrival. The highlight of the year was our Junior-Senior Banquet. For weeks we worked, planned, and raised money to finance it. The results were rewarding, for that night was a memorable Evening in Paris for everyone. The past year has been busy but exciting, and next year will be just as wonderful as we look forward to being seniors. To the sophomores we will the anticipation of class rings, the headaches of late hours writing so fast on the dreaded American history outlines, the worries over the Junior-Senior plans, and most of all, our best wishes for a successful junior year. 22 John Adams Judith Allgower David Amstutz Brenda Beeney Jane Bell John Ed. Our sophomore year was a busy one. Besides carrying five subjects and having plenty of homework, we added to our class treasury by selling window cleaner. Sophomores held prominent Reserve positions in hopes of becoming Varsity players next year. We are proud to have ranked high as a class in the scholarship test at Westerville. At year's end, we soph- omores achieved our hearts desire, to become juniors—upperclassmen. 30 Judith Amrine Sally Ballard Suzanne Beightler Connie Cameron Dale Carpenter Frank Carter Rose Bonham Donna Borland Barbara Bugg Roxye Carter John Caudill Bonnie Bell Jeffry Benton Peggy Bevis 31 Mary Beth Cobb Linda Congrove Daniel Converse Paul Goulter Carolyn Cox Ted Cremeans Roger Daymude Dee Ann De Bolt Geraldine Decker Mary De Good Kelly Drake Lewis Durant Earl Eldridge 32 Carol Ferguson Mary Jo Fetter William Forrider Gene James Deborah Jerew Eileen Jividen Spencer Jordan Sherry Keigley 33 Ronald Lane Dixie Ledley Patricia Livensparger Mary Sue Livingston Bonnie Me Bride Rodney McCullough Wayne Manley Carl Martin Robert Marvin William Maugan Sharon Mayberry John M inter Daniel Moe Ronald Murdock 34 Larry Pratt Jo Ann Prichard Patricia Ransome Walter Ransome Laurann Reese Richard Ridge Marsha Ridgeway Roy Penix Linda Penny James Pratt Dennis Roberts 33 Sandra Sanderson Doris Schrote Reba Shinkle Howard Somerlot Deane Simpson Lois Smith Cri8S Somerlot Dianne Steele Barbara Stock well Peggy Swartz Susan Stierhoff Terry Rockhold Judith Rubeck Daniel Rush 36 Nicholas Taylor Thomas Thomas Sheila Ward Cheryl Webb Pamela Webb Mary Wells NOT PICTURED: Tonya Davis Barbara Miley Leslie Music 37 Freshman Class Officers LEFT TO RIGHT: Richard Hoffman, Treasurer; Jim Blue, Student Council Representative; Linda Ward, Secretary; Bob Webb, Vice-President; Charles Maglll, President. The high school road is four years long, full of joy and sadness. We freshmen came in as underdogs, the lowest of the low. Scrubs against the Varsity, last chairs in the band, victims of algebra, Spanish, general science, and English teachers, we eventually became accustomed to high school routine and began looking forward to becoming sophomores. We now feel that our first year in high school has been very rewarding and that we are 38 successfully on our way. Buckeye Boys and Girls1 State educate our young men and women in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizen- ship; in a realistic manner, they give these citizens an opportunity to learn the problems of govern- ment with special emphasis upon the contribution youth can make to the welfare of the city, county, state, and nation. Staters learn by doing. Every citizen of a 51st ’’state” has a responsibility to his Buckeye state. Buckeye Staters are chosen by the faculty of Rich wood High School. Richwood’s delegates were co-sponsored by local organizations and business- men. Buckeye Boys’ State, sponsored by the American Legion, was held on the campus of Ohio University, Athens. Girls’ State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, was at Capitol University, Columbus. Buckeye Boys’ and Girls’ State Linda Fetter, Connie Bumgarner, Marsha McDaniel, Terry Christy. Ten students from Richwood participated in their assigned of- fices: Bill Boyd, State Representative; Pat Carrel, Treasurer's Office; Jim Price, Commissioner’s Office; Jerry Pfarr, Sheriff’s Office; Bill Cheney, Auditor’s Office; Dan Anderson, Recorder's Office; Geraldine Smith, Clerk's Office; Ray Rogers and Cecil Martin, County Office of Education. Union County Government Day gives a repre- sentative group of students from the county schools a chance to examine the mechanics of this county’s government. Each of these students was put into a unit of government and was briefed on the duties of that office. The students were then assigned duties in hopes that they would gain, experience and understanding of their offices. County Government Day ROW ONE: Cecil Martin, Ray Rogers, Jerry Pfarr. Fantasia” This year the Mixed Chorus presented to the public the First Annual Fantasia featuring a musical, Around the World, written and organized by the members of the Mixed Chorus. The story took place in an ocean liner on a world cruise and featured the acting and singing of Linda Ransome as Ann Forsythe, Dan Kyle as Richard Moore, Charlotte DeGood as Miss Johnson, Terry Rockhold as the ship's captain, and Barbara Williams, Dolores Bond, Sharon Hause, Mary Beth Cobb, and Pat Kelly as college girls. Through the work of the entire Mixed Chorus, the dance band, and Mr. Noe, a successful show was presented to the public. 61 This aerial picture of Richwood shows the route that the band takes when they participate in parades. The band has performed in several parades which were held in the town this year. In the fall the band marched to the fairgrounds for a concert during the Labor Day Weekend Celebration. The band also marched through the town on the night of the Homecoming football game and dance. 62 ATHLETICS Footbal ROW ONE: John Caudill, Dick Gill, Rick Ballinger, Bob Reese, Marvin. Like a rose without a stem, Without one to wear the diadem, So we chose for all to see, To grace the scene with pride, Our lovely queen, Miss Pat McBride. That she may sport with the better sort, To our pretty queen, we'll add a court. And to the royal family, we'll give some smiles, To lift defeated tracksters along life's weary miles. 74 HUMOR After the game and after the cheers, After the joys and after the tears, A newly won trophy will proudly stand In its glass home, as has been planned.
