61 RICH WOOD HIGH SCHOOL Richwood, Ohio TIGRTRAX Kay McDaniel, Editor Miss Ann Jones Looking back to those days in the first grade, each of us holds dear the memories of the teacher who gave us love and assurance along with the 3 R's on our first venture away from our mothers. Miss Ann Jones was the teacher who started many of our parents and many of us on our long journey through the halls of wisdom and knowledge. Those of us who have been taught by Miss Jones have a special place in our memories just for her. We not only remember the Alice and Jerry books she taught us to read and then let us take home to read with pride to our parents, but we also think of the fun we had playing with her on the playground. My, could she ever give that red rubber ball a punch! It would go high into the air, and we would run after it, hoping to be the one who brought it back to her. Then there are things Miss Jones did for us that we have forgotten: All the noses she wiped, the stuck coat zippers she unloosed, and all the boots she got back on our feet when the school day was over. She once said that we might meet her at Heaven’s gates where she was sure St. Peter would station her to help the angels with their boots. And so. Miss Jones, we students of Richwood High School dedicate the 1961 Tigrtrax to you, that we might show our appreciation for the 45 years you taught and guided us toward the future, Miss Jones, we will try to make you proud to say, I was their teacher. As we, the Class of 1961, leave these familiar halls of Richwood High to step into the world outside, we take with us countless lingering memories. We shall never forget all the good times we have shared, all the good friends we have made, all the good fun we have known within these walls. The hard work, the hard laughs, all are weaved with golden threads within our book of memories, there to repose forever. Now the time has come, however. The beginning is ended. We must now go forth into the world and face our futures, alone. The qualities we struggled to attain today have suddenly become the tools with which we shall build our tomorrows. Yet, though we are leaving and our voices will no longer echo down these halls, we, the Class of '61, hope that you will always endeavor to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” those things which you are learning today; for they shall be the touchstones to tomorrow. Besides studies, of which there were heaps, we concentrated our efforts on activities such as the Junior play, athletics, and organizations. However, most of our energy was expended on raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet and other expenses. To accomplish our goal we served dinners; collected tax stamps; sold candy, stationery, and basketball concessions and programs. But neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stayed... we Juniors from our goals. Ours was a full, busy year; and our hopes are high that the coming year will be just as packed with fun and activity. This past year, to put it mildly, has been busy for us sophomores. Many of us carried five subjects, and supplemented these with extracurricular activities. We held a Chili Supper to begin fund-raising for our junior and senior years' expenses. Other than that, we studied, studied, studied. Well, we did find time to hold some parties, play some sports, attend some dances, sing some songs, and have a super Sophomore year! Our hopes are high for the coming year when we shall finally be upper-class! We came in with a flurry--all one-hundred-plus ofus--and roamed about with curious confusion. At last we were organized and properly introduced to our various schedules, teachers, and schoolmates. As the year advanced, we entered many activities either out of curiosity, interest, conformity, or admiration for those amazing upperclassmen. We were so busy getting settled that we had little time for projects, but parties were plentiful, and so was homework. A new year is coming and plans are in the making for an even better next-year. We have only begun to climb. The band really sparkled on the Tiger gridiron as they mambo'd, cha cha'd, drilled, and danced their musical way through the year. As a finale, the Tiger Band appeared twice at the Columbus Colts' games; the second time being the big Thanksgiving Day game. With the direction of Robert Shoemaker and the supporting guidance of the Band Council, the Tiger Band has again chalked up another tremendous marching A9 season. Girls' Chorus 52 The Girls' Chorus made Another Openin', Another Show this year as they sang their way through their third annual Choral Cabaret and another successful season. This year, the Cabaret theme was Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun. The girls again tried something new as they constructed a floor set of dazzling blacklite satin and, on stage, introduced characters and lines, as well as singing, to the show. Sharon Poast was starred as the rolicking Annie Oakley. She was ably supported by Connie Roberts as Frank, Jo Brobeck as Charlie, Shirley Mannasmith as Buffalo Bill, and a whole cast of cowboys, Indians, kids, and pretty girls. The show ran two nights and was a smashing success, which all goes to prove-- There's No Business Like Show Business.
