UNION COUNTY'S ATHLETIC PROGRAM SOFT BALL l Union has won the Soft Ball Championship for the past three years. During this period of time, the Union boys have played twenty-seven games, winning twenty-six while losing only one. Chuckery-Darby again won the Girls' Softball Championship for the third consecu- tive' season. Comparable to Union's record, the Darby girls have lost only four games BASEBALL Union's Baseball Team made baseball history last season, not only for Union Rural, but for Union County. Union's schedule last season was unblemished' with the ex- ception of the final game in the State Tournament. The team's success was an at- tribute of superior pitching on the part of Herb Stillings and Roger Erwin, as well as the timely hitting and fielding of the whole team. Six of the twelve teams were contenders for the league championship during the year. This team was coached by Bernard Jones, who deserves a great deal of credit and congratulation. One of the high lights of the tournament this year was the contest held for cheer leaders. For the first time, a trophy was awarded, the winning school being Allen Rural. The cheer leaders were Rowland Seymour, captaing Ruth Cross, Ruth Paver, Joy Applegate and Alice Holt. ',.
