CHUCKERY - DARBY SCHOOL SCHOOL ACTIVITIES NEWSPAPER STAFF: The Black and Orange is a new paper being issued this year. The Editor-in-chief is John George and his assistants are: Assistant Editor, Donald Greenbaum, Boys' Sports, Richard Burns, Girl's Sports, Norma Rausch, Art Editor, Leland Mapes, Reporters, Esther Hubmann, Rolland Rausch, Harold Burns, Robert Boerger, Mary Barbara Rausch, Marjorie Durban, Typists, Senior Typing Class. LITERARY CLUB: Chuckery-Darby High School has had a Literary Club for the last few years. This year it was divided into two groups. Mr. Davis is the leader of one group and Mr. McKitrick, the other group. The officers of the first group are as follows: Mildred Lombard, Pres., John Greenbaum, V. Pres., Martha Adams, Sec., Officers of the second group: Doris Doellinger, Pres., Erna Bunsold, V. Pres., Elsie Blumenschein, Sec. SPORTS: Last spring the Darby baseball team was quite successful in the tourna- ment, being runners up. This fall another team was organized, which also did very well, winning two out of the four games played. Darby also had a softball team which won more than half of its games. After softball was over the boys played a few games of six-man touch football. All of the boys enjoyed playing it. This marks our third year for this sport. In league games our basketball team won six games, losing four and finishing fourth in the south league. Darby's junior high team was composed of freshmen boys and played in the junior high tourney. Since the girls cannot win a basketball cup any more they are really taking the honors in softball. Last spring they won their fourth straight championship and last October they won their fifth cup. 1 CHUCKERY-DARBY F. F. A. CHAPTER: The officers and committees of the Chuck- ery-Darby Chapter for the year 1940-41 are: Lutrelle Rausch, Pres., Leo Burns. Vice Pres., Leland Mapes, Sec., John George, Treas., Robert Boerger, News reporter, Donald Nicol, watch dog, Advisor, Mr. Renner. DECLAMATION: The pupils in the declamation contest this year were all sopho- mores: Evelyn Teske, Margarette Shaw, Carl Troesch, and Lutrelle Boerger gave humorous declamations. The serious declamations were given by Doris Holycross, Myra Lou Holycross, Herbert Scheiderer and Richard Rausch. Evelyn Teske won first place in the humorous declamations and Carl Tesch won second place. In the serious declamations Doris Holycross won first place and Myra Lou Holycross won second. Both first place winners participated in the district contest held at Allen Center. ORCHESTRA: This organization composed of twenty-four pupils meets weekly on Wednesdays for one hour. It is made up of pupils from the upper grades and is under the direction of Opal Greenbaum. GIRLS AND BOYS GLEE CLUB: The'Glee Clubs are elective. Every pupil in the high school is enrolled in one of the clubs. 'K l
