I It isa Navy tradition that the first deck log entry of the year be written in verse. The mid watch entry for january 1, 1984 was written by Lt. joseph Gelsomino IAKA Father Guido Sarduccij. It was a typical night patrolling off the coast of Beirut, Lebanon. The deck log gives the state of the ship at midnight. The crew was being entertained by the Smitty Show New Year's Eve Special. The RK T spent four and a half months in the Eastern Med area supporting the Marines and Naval forces stationed in and off Beirut.
