Those who were born in the roaring forties are now graduating from high school in the fabulous fifties! And this is the last chance to do so, since the next class will step out into the Space-traveling Sixties! What have you gained from your years with us in Richmond Hill High School to fit you for life in these truly fabulous times? You should have some technical facility you did not possess four years ago, some assorted facts. and some knowledge of how to find things you need to krrow. But in this present- day world of IBM machines, automation, man in orbit perhaps, do you have the ability to get along with your neighbor? That too will be necessary. Have you enough mental furniture so that you never have to be bored? You will need that equipment also. Can you follow directions? Even your life may depend upon it. So we hope you have developed here some of the skills Richmond Hill has always given her graduates, and a full measure besides of the things the fabulous fifties already demand of you in this fast-moving world. HELEN A KOCH Administrative Assistant On july lst. the federal budget for the year will have been approved and in operation. A great deal of thought goes into preparing a budgetg it is a gigantic task. By comparison our graduating seniors have a much smaller but equally important task. They must prepare their plans for the future. Our graduates have many assets from which to draw. One of the most impor- tant but usually unlisted assets is potential. Potential is the possibility for the future. It is that intangible asset that we draw on when a challenge arises. Too often we are indifferent to challenge. Sometimes we don't recognize oppor- tunity. Often we lack confidence. Will you be ready when the call comes? The past ten years have given ample evidence of man's inventiveness and ingenuity. It needs no special clairvoyance to predict that the learned planning of the UEIETIESH must inevitably place man on the moon and the planets some time in the sixties. seventies, or eighties. What do these years represent? For you, it is the future-and you must con- template it well. John Galsworthy wisely said, If you do not think about the future, you cannot have one. If you think clearly, and I am sure you will, you must come to one conclusion. Your world of tomorrow will demand more thorough training, broader knowledge, extended learning, and a measure of higher education.
