One day. in cxasperation. she came to him and held out a very expensive handkerchief, on which a large ugly ink blot had fallen. What a Shame' she moaned. It is absolutely good for nothing now, My handkerchief is totally spoiled. Ruskin said nothing but asked if he might borrow it for a day. The next dav he returned it tu her without a word and the lady marveled when she realized that he. using the ink blot as a starting point. had designed a beautiful pattern in that spoiled corner. Now it was actually worth more than it had been before the blot had disfigured it! Perhaps during our tareers in Richmond Hill we have experienced a few ink blotsf-.1 subject failed, a costly mistake or an unexpected disap- pointment, How have we used these ink blots? Did we permit them to disillusion and tlisttitirrge us, or did we, like Ruskin, use them as starting points to design .1 richer. fuller and more beautiful life for ourselves.
