forfure fhem. As a maffer of facf, puddles beaufify fhe world. Nice, shiny puddles confribufe considerably fowards brighfening up a gloomy day. A hosf of people go abouf day affer day seeing only fhe gray skies and fhe rain. lf fhey would only look more closely fhey would see brighl' shining spofs all abouf 'I'hem, shining pools of wafer, 'lhaf are willing fo do ever so many fhings for fhem if fhey would only 'rake advanfage of fhe facf. And we call fhese fhings puddles. ro--- Beaufy is poor and This l know, For you yourself have fold me so. Your every move is made by car: Your die+'s gin and caviar. Can beaufy in a rich girl grow? Ah no. Your eyes have losf 'l'heir glow, Your skin's no longer whifesf snow, Your charms and grace have fled afar: Beaufy is poor. A dissipafed poise you show. True dignify fled long ago, Firsf fo fheafre, fhen fo bar: Flying, fleefing e'er you are: Loveliness from fhis can l' flow! Beaufy is poor. J. Jean Hechf. O BOREAS l am lord of fhe sleef and 'lhe snow: l am God of fhe cold and fhe gale. And from Hoemus wifh billowy blow l scaffer 'rhe driffs and 'lhe hail. And l shake and l shudder fhe frees, When l carry 'lhe frosf fo fhe plain, And I rough and l riof fhe seas: From earfh all fhe warmfh l do drain. For l'm Lord of 'I'he cool and fhe cold And l fly wifh fhe fiercesf of wings And earfh fo my liking l mould As my voice fhru fhe sky roars and rings. J. Jean Hechf. THE'SENIOR'DOME 5

CN EIARY ANDERSON '33 People have such enfirely differenf ways of walking fhrough pud- dles. The arisfocraf, sfrolling wifh eyes rigidly forward, sfops, gazes wifh annoyance af his feef and fhen once more sfarfs on around fhe puddle. Such persons do nof approve' of puddles. The efficienf busi- ness man barely nofices if, sfeps over if in passing and hurries on his way. His kind of people has no fime for puddles. The working man plows fhrough if, emerges on fhe ofher side and walks on. A puddle fo him is iusf anofher obsfacle fo be mef grimly. A kindred spirif passes fhaf way, nofices fhe puddle, gazes whimsically af if, splashes fhrough wifh evidenf enioymenf and goes on his way. Perhaps he fhinks whaf a delighfful subiecf for an essay a puddle would make. I begin fo fhink we do nof appreciafe puddles as we should. We are overjoyed when we can go swimming in large puddles, known fo you as lakes or seas, yef we abhor fhe fhoughl' of a small puddle. Of course in a small puddle only our feel' go swimming, buf fhe principle is fhe same. I fhink in such cases we show a greaf dealgof favorifism. Children enioy puddles, however. A puddle fo fhem is an evenf. When I was a child, many long years ago, I disfincfly remember fhe uses fo which we puf puddles. We sold fheml One of us would address fhe ofher fhus: Could I inferesf you in a nice puddle fo-day, Mrs. Smifh? We iusf gof fhem in fresh fhis morning and fhey're quife large and pre'H'y. Mrs. Smifh would reply, very seriously, Well, Mr. Jones, If you're sure fhey're fresh and nof foo sfringy nor fhin, I may fake one. How much is fhaf round one over fhere? Af which Mr. Jones would name a price, wrap up fhe arficle and Mrs. Smifh would deparf, a puddle in her hand and a look of safisfacfion on her face. Now fhaf I have reached a venerable age when I am expecfed fo know beffer, I puf my puddles fo a very differenf use. I rely upon fhem as a means of punishing persons who would ofherwise go un- scafhed. As I walk down a rainy sfreef I say fo myself, wifh a wicked mien, Thal' puddle is my French feacherl and sfraighfway,-Splash! The French feacher is scaffered all over fhe sidewalk. I proceed wifh no qualms of conscience whafsoever. The puddles don l' mind af all and I'm sure fhe French feacher doesn'f. I recommend fhis fo all vengeful persons as a means of working off femper wifh harm fo no one. I Puddles are handy fhings fo have around for ofher reasons. One can sif and falk fo a puddle for hours wifhouf ifs answering back once. If is besf fo do fhis, however, when few people are abouf. lncidenfally falking fo a puddle saves wear and fear on your friends and family. I know families who keep puddles handy af all 'limes for fhis very reason. One can also read essays 'ld puddles. This, I fhink, is going a bif fo far, however. Puddles have never harmed anyone and one shouldn'f 4 THE'SENIOR'DOME
