é Puts In Long Hours Business Education Department BUSINESS EDUCATION CURRICULUM Two types of majors, secretarial and general busi- ness, are presented by the Business Education De- partment. Secretarial students study Business Math and Typing 1 as Sophomores; Business English, Typing 2, and Stenography 1 as Juniors; and Stenography 2, Transcription, Office Practice, Bookkeeping, and Machine Calculation as Seniors. The general business major takes Typing 1, Record Keeping or Business Math as a Sophomore; Typing 2 and Consumer Retailing as a Junior; and Office Practice or Clerical Training and or Bookkeeping and or Machine Calculation as a Senior. The Department also promotes post-graduation employment placement by offering Civil Service examinations to students. MISS MELBA O'CONNELL MR. ETTA LOU HAWKINS Department Chairman Foods 1, Clothing 2,3; Clothing 1,2 Clothing 1, Home Costuming Management 2 Home Economics Department The entire Home Economics Department believes strongly that the most important role of a woman is that of a homemaker, a wife and a mother. She holds the future in her hands. There are six courses which may be taken and Homemaking is the first. Homemaking teaches Sophomores the basics of meal planning and cooking, clothing construction, consumer education, health and related subjects. Home Management | is a course designed for Juniors on care of the home and child care. The highlight of the class is a child development laboratory and a play school each spring. Home Management 2 for Seniors is involved in the art of self- improvement and home planning and decoration. Clothing and Foods classes teach consumer seamstress. Advanced clothing teaches tailoring techniques of different countries. The Spring PTA Fashion Show is presented by these students. MRS. MARGARET IWAI Homemaking 2, Home Management 1 MRS.
