Rock music livens Prom tropic island Elated Prom couples entered the “Isle of Golden Dreams” on a bridge. Dates strolled amidst a tropical atmosphere of palm trees, mural ocean scenes, and thatched huts. Girls wearing varieties of gowns, pants formals, and hot pants formats received wild jungle flowers for the gala affair. This accent of plastic-dipped momentos was provided by the Junior Class planners. “December’s Children” provided music for dancers, while others were content to listen to the music. Crowning of Prom Queen Nancy Beck added a final touch to the festive evening.

Lyboult field sets scene for 100th ceremony Considered the most comfortable Commencement, the 100th and largest ceremony was held outdoors on Lyboult Field. After the sweltering Baccalaureate service the Sunday before, 671 seniors found it easier to listen to graduation speeches outside. Selected from their class to speak were Kathy Fox. Kim Bullerdick, and John Weas. A 1952 drop-out and now assistant professor at the University of Illinois, William D. Gentel accepted an honorary high school diploma from RHS and the class of 1971. Cool weather chased many graduates to Forest Hills Country Club for the Jaycee all-night party. Sizzling steaks and a lively dance band helped to warm up the crowd.
