The Richmond Board of School Trustees, which works closely with Mr. Garrison, plan and establish the rules and policies which the schools use. Erika found life in Richmond to be much different than life in her home town of Baden, Austria. The following is her im- pression of the Mardi Gras. When school started in September, everyone was talking about Mardi Gras. At that time I hod no idea what it was going to be. You cannot imagine my surprise when I come into the gym where everyone was working on their Mardi Gras booths. It look- ed like one of our Fairs at home, except that our Fairs are in open air. But there is an- other big difference. Our Fairs are arranged by grown-ups v ho have hands to help them with all arrangements. I think it is wonder- ful if young people get the chance to work on something like this, free to use their own imagination and their own minds. It was a wonderful festivity, and I especially admired the girls and boys who submitted to such torture as having water or pies thrown in their faces. Mardi Gras is not only a wonderful way to make money, but it is also a wonderful way to have fun, I had great fun! Erika Loeschner 49 Sandy Lanman ' s booth, HOUND DOG, received the Y-Teen doll this year. Donna Kiracofe ' s booth, CATHY ' S CLOWN, was the best decorated booth at the MardI Gras. f Hh 1 ■ 50 Student Council First Row: Bob Hampton, Doug Roland, Sue Harper, Janice Mills, Willie Lewis, Diane Ling, Steve Thomp- son, Judy Floretto, Gretchen Frisch, Jay Colvin, Erika Loeschner, Christie Lingle, Carol North, Mike Kendall. The pre-game and half-time shows were enjoyed by all. It was a dis- oppointment that the Hoosiers lost to Oregon State, 20-6. The excitement seemed to be over for the day. However, it was not because os one of the RHS buses left the stadium, it struck a car. There was no serious damage, but the band was detained for about three-quarters of an hour. On the way home, some people en- joyed eating. Mr. EIrod, especially, en- joyed part of Janet Vosmeier ' s egg salad sandwich!!! By the time the buses reached the ftigh school, a tired band departed from the buses to the awaiting cars. Click . . . Screech! Who took my pencil? Where ' s that picture? These are sounds familiar to the staff mem- bers of the 1961 Pierian. It has been a lot of hard work, but a lot of fun, too. Troubles hove been many, and deadlines too close, but some how the Pierian is finished. The only comment the 61 staff has for the student body is, HOORAY ' WE ' RE FIN- ISHED! cing The Means The work on the yearbook has been a hard but rewarding task. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped in any way to moke this book possible. First we would like to thank Mr. Reed and Mr. McConnell for their co-operation in helping us to schedule pictures and also for their vigorous interest in all of our projects. We would like to thank the custodians: Otis Wynn, Kenny Purvis, and Tony Michaels, for their back-breaking work when cleaning up after our picture taking, painting, and picture cutting. Mr. Larry Porter and Mr. Bill Loehr ore high on our list, also. Bill spent many hours working with us developing layouts, picture poses, and doing anything else that we asked of him. Larry donated much time and effort in taking, de- veloping, and printing the pictures of the queen candidates and cheerleaders. After all of this work. Lorry donated the pictures to the Pierian. Of course we can ' t forget about our sponsor, Mrs. Wil- liam McGovern. Though at times we didn ' t act like it, we really appreciated all the help, guidance, ideas, and encour- agement she gave us. Naturally, we can ' t forget Mr Bill Butherus, our rep- resentative from Inter-Collegiate Press. Without him and his company this book would not have been possible. 143 INTER-COLLEGIATE PRESS Publishers — Manufacturers Yearbooks — Yearbook Covers Diplomas — Graduation Announcements Factory — Home Office Konsas City — Winnipeg U.S.A. ilm ' ff ---— -n • k . rr  N ' ■ .1- ' V -
