English class can be very, impressing, Mrs. Pratt, our sleeping is depressing. In P. O. D. we strive to do better I look on while Marilyn reads her letter. Marilyn brags about typing fast But every class she swears is her last. In Bookkeeping class I really rate But wrong answers are always my fate. Back together we appear In Consumer Ec. from Mr. Spear. Next we turn toward study hall This, we agree, is the best of all. Georgia Moeller and Marilyn Schools '53 CHRISTMAS EVE The corn was in the popper, Jumping up and downg The tree was brightly lighted, Santa's come to town. The Children were all excited, They had a reason -- 'causeg They'd just seen their mother, Kissing Santa Claus. Besse Cote '56 A DREAMER As the birds flutter by, Or sing in the treesg When the wind utters a sigh, And leaves blow in the breeze. As I watch the moon and stars, Waves of the lake blowing highg I think of wonderful things, That money can never buy. Norene White '54 MY POEM Teacher said that I must write a pretty little verse. It must have lots of words that rhyme, like hearse an' nurse an' purse. So I sat down and tried to think Of a couple of sweet refrains, Then I decided to let teacher do it, 'cause she's got all the brains. Dorothy Wheeler '55 THE BEST YEARS A The first years are the best years, The old saying goes: But Senior year's the best year, As any Senior knows. For us, another year begins, Another door swings wideg A promise, yet a challenge, too, To meet with joy and pride. HELLO I know that I must write a poem To earn an average rank, But when I think of being poetic My mind is just a blank. An open door, a future path, Whose end we cannot see, A winding way where we must talk With all humanity. With new-found courage, hand in hand We 'll go in search of Good, And Right and Truth -- the golden keys To world -wide brotherhood! WILL THERE BE A WAY We are joined all together Now look at the sadness in Korea On this land below the sky, It soon will be a war, What we are really doing here And if we are not careful We often wonder why. 'Twill be the worst we ever saw. We think of things that are going on The boys there are getting killed Wondering what will happen next, Many more each day, For when you look right at it We wonder if Mr. Eisenhower We're really in a fix. Will soon find a way. We hope that soon there'll be a change We hope there'll be a way, So all the boys in Korea Will be home with us to stay.
