The end of our good old school days. Even though we all want to get out of school, deep down in our hearts there's an ache, for we know that we are to leave the wonderful times we have had at R.H.S. We must face the fu- ture, We leave the school with the thought that we are on our own. We must think for our- selves. R.H.S. has helped us get the opportunity to be successful. Even though we may all enter different fields of work, we hope to be successful, and we know that if we strive to do well and to get ahead, we WILL do well. As we go out into the world, many years from now we will remember the school and the wonderful times we have enjoyed here. Always, we will remember our graduation day, when we marched out with tears in our eyes, for we were to leave the wonderful friends we made during our schooldays, No matter what the future may hold, we may always remember our class motto: VICTORY CROWNS SUCCESS. Pauline Cray '53 SJPERINTENDENT RUSSELL W. PERRY Recognition goes to Mr. Russell W. Perry Superintendent of Schools and coach of the girl's basketball team, for his faithful ser- vice to the schools for the past eight years. You've certainly fulfilled your duties to the utmost, Mr. Perry, and you can be sure that all you've done for us has been deeply appreciated. Our sincere thanks are extended to you and we wish to express our best wishes for your continued success. English class can be very, impressing, Mrs. Pratt, our sleeping is depressing. In P. O. D. we strive to do better I look on while Marilyn reads her letter. Marilyn brags about typing fast But every class she swears is her last. In Bookkeeping class I really rate But wrong answers are always my fate. Back together we appear In Consumer Ec. from Mr. Spear. Next we turn toward study hall This, we agree, is the best of all. Georgia Moeller and Marilyn Schools '53 CHRISTMAS EVE The corn was in the popper, Jumping up and downg The tree was brightly lighted, Santa's come to town. The Children were all excited, They had a reason -- 'causeg They'd just seen their mother, Kissing Santa Claus. Besse Cote '56 A DREAMER As the birds flutter by, Or sing in the treesg When the wind utters a sigh, And leaves blow in the breeze. As I watch the moon and stars, Waves of the lake blowing highg I think of wonderful things, That money can never buy. Norene White '54 MY POEM Teacher said that I must write a pretty little verse. It must have lots of words that rhyme, like hearse an' nurse an' purse. So I sat down and tried to think Of a couple of sweet refrains, Then I decided to let teacher do it, 'cause she's got all the brains. Dorothy Wheeler '55 THE BEST YEARS A The first years are the best years, The old saying goes: But Senior year's the best year, As any Senior knows. For us, another year begins, Another door swings wideg A promise, yet a challenge, too, To meet with joy and pride. HELLO I know that I must write a poem To earn an average rank, But when I think of being poetic My mind is just a blank. An open door, a future path, Whose end we cannot see, A winding way where we must talk With all humanity. With new-found courage, hand in hand We 'll go in search of Good, And Right and Truth -- the golden keys To world -wide brotherhood! Pat McDermott 53 Tho' this little poem isn't much It's really all I know, I can't think of a plot -- believe me So all I will say is Hello. Joyce Gilpatrick 54 WILL THERE BE A WAY We are joined all together Now look at the sadness in Korea On this land below the sky, It soon will be a war, What we are really doing here And if we are not careful We often wonder why. 'Twill be the worst we ever saw. We think of things that are going on The boys there are getting killed Wondering what will happen next, Many more each day, For when you look right at it We wonder if Mr. Eisenhower We're really in a fix. Will soon find a way. We hope that soon there'll be a change We hope there'll be a way, So all the boys in Korea Will be home with us to stay. Bette LaRochelle '54 u AT SCHOOL Do something each day to bring gladness To all whose pleasures are fewg Do something to drive away sadness OI CHUSC S0lTle0Il6'S dreams IO COITIC ULIB. Find time for a neighborly greeting And time to enjoy all friendsg Remember, the years are flying And school's final day will soon end. Do something today that tomorrow Will prove really worth whileg Help someone to overcome sorrow And greet each day with a smile. For only through kindness and giving Of friendship, service and cheer, Can we learn the glory of living And finding our happiness here. Camille Cloutier '55 AN ATTEMPT With pen in hand I sit to write, A poem for English class, tonight, Though I'm not a poet like Poe, I'l'l try to write this poem just so. l'm not a poet as you may see, So will you sympathize with meg As I try hard my best to do, In form and rhyme and rhythm, too. R. H. S. The day I entered R. H. S. What was ahead I never had guessed With all so new, what was I to do But just to follow the rest. rr 'C J in ls ,., 'Sf' 3 fall . W' 'V fl ,V 1 We learned in English, rhythm to use All those funny words to chooseg Anapestic, Trochaic, and Iambic, Do you wonder how we could stand it? Now we've finished the poems of Poe, And how to scan them all just so: So now I'l1 end my rhyme tonight, Because in Poetry I'm not bright. Gail Stuber '54 Then the year of '51 was done But what lay in the year to come? So back to school to a different desk And to the class considered the best. Upstairs in the room, on the left of the hall Is where we have the most fun of all, And what class could the noisy one be? The Junior Class, that's plain to see. Our organization started the year with thirty-one girls making up the Glee Club, later be- ing joined by thirteen boys, which of course was a great asset. Returning from last year is Mrs. Persis Bates, our supervisor, who does a fine job in fulfilling her task. We have rehearsals on the average of once a week, and at one time made preparations for a Musical Show, but couldn't carry them out, due to so many other activities occuring at the same time. During the year, we held a meeting to-elect officers and they are as follows: President ------------- Georgia Moeller Librarian ------------- Pat McDermott Assistant Librarian ----------- Jean Guiou Even though we haven't sponsored any affairs this year, we don't feel that our time has been wasted, as we've all received a lot of enjoyment out of being a part of the club, Our sincere thanks go to Mrs. Bates for her untiring patience with us, and the Senior members extend their best wishes for the club's future success. The crowning took place at the Christmas Ball, on December 26th with Mr. Spear, Master of Ceremonies, Gloria Small was chosen Queen and Clarence Pickett was chosen King. Both the Queen and the King received many gifts donated by various merchants of the town. Also each of the candi- dates received a present. Of the 16 who appeared 12 were veterans. The fou.r new freshmen were: M. Hinkley, D. Bates, C. Anderson, and E. Leibowitz. Coach Perry spent many hours Drilling us to get in shape for another good season. We came through our third season undefeated, 51 straight wins, to date. Our big game of the season was against Bliss Business College at the Lewiston Ar- mory, Dec. 5. 1952. We played a prelim game to the Harlem Globe Trotters. We played 16 games this season and are planning a few more. Throughout the year we've lost a couple of girls, who we hope will be in the line up next year. Manager Emelene Hinkley deserves much credit for the good work this season. Al- so l must mention the good work of our guards: who have stopped our opponents and struggled to get the ball giving the forwards great chances to spark. Late in the season the girls received new uniforms which were badly needed and greatly appreciated. 1 Coach Perry is working on our trip to Boston. We are planning to play a game while there. Coach Perry has spent many long hours helping us gain our victory. I would like to thank Coach Perry, for the Girls team, for being so wonderful to us, I also want to wish, from the Seniors, the Girls lots of LUCK in the future. They've played great ball this year through much team- work. They defeated Erskine Academy in the play-offs at Waterville on Thursday, Febru- ary 19, then journeyed to Winslow High School and defeated Oakland by just a narrow margin and then again at Winslow took the final game defeated Freedom Academy 51- 31.
