It’s a big, wide wonderful world that we are preparing ourselves for. . . .we, as high school students have learned and will keep on learning of our responsibility to ourselves and the future. At Richmond High there are very good student- teacher relationships and we are happy to have teachers and administrators who understand each student as an individual. Mr. Charles Ritter, our new principal, came from Eastern Michigan University to our school this year. Although new to Richmond High, he has already made a good impression on the students, who have taken their problems to him and have received expert guidance. To Mr. Ritter we extend a hand of gratitude for the fine things he has done. 8 Mr. Ritter, our new principal New Administration Proves Successful Mr. Krause is helping one of the office secretaries, Mrs. Jenkins. After teaching English for two years, at Richmond High, Mr. Carl Krause left in 1953 to teach for two years in Mt. Clemens. After an additional year of teaching in St. Clair Shores, he returned to our system in 1956 as Principal of Richmond High School, which position he held for five years. In this capaci- ty he was an able administrator, a fine counselor, and a good friend. Now Mr. Krause is in his first year as our Superintendent of Schools. He has taken over many additional responsibilities. To him go our thanks for keeping our school system running smoothly. Mr. Krause, our new superintendent 9 The Men Behind the Scenes We, the Students of Richmond High School, would like to express our thanks to the members of the Board of Education for the long, hard, hours they have put in their endeavors to make Richmond High School a better and more inspiring place for every student in attendance. Each function has the goal of providing fun and enjoyment while teaching new skills, and the opportunity to meet teenagers with the same in- terests. No one is ever excluded, and no one is ever denied the privilege of joining. The members plan and organize student assembles and other activities with great care. They also pass rules governing the student body. The Student Council is trying to organize at the present time a student court. If the court is put in effect it will descipline students that go contrary to the schools policy. This past year the council provided the means for the students to attend sports events. Through the advisorship of Mr. Rop the council is gaining in student governing powers. 28 Achievement Is Goal of National Honor Society SITTING: Mr. Nash, Advisor; Neal Bandiow, Barbara Bernard. Members of the Richmond High School debate team must have an adequate knowledge of public affairs, and must be able to discuss them freely. After placing fourth in the Blue Water Forensic League and doing a commendable job in the area state debates, the team has gained a much better and clearer understanding of problems being faced by our public school systems. Research in the library is one of the important steps toward becoming a good debater. Ken Rasmussen draws the headlines on the stencils with the mimoscope. 32 Hard Work Results in a Better Yearbook A better yearbook was the goal of the 1962 Echo staff. Many hours of hard work was spent by the staff in making improvements over last year’s book. With Mr. Marsden as their advisor, and Mrs. Oke as the English consultant, the Echo staff has proven that all hard work and anxieties over deadlines have helped to provide a better yearbook. Crew Works to Make Class Hours Interesting Audio visual aids endeavor to serve the school by aiding the teachers with films and slides, to make class hours more interesting and profitable. The A.V. crew also assists at assemblies when visual aids are to be used. Thanks to these boys, we do not have to limit class hours to discussion only, but our talks can be brought to life by moving action. Gym Assistants Help Make Gym a Rewarding Class To keep the gym hours active and moving, and to aid the gym instructors, are the duties of the gym assistants. They begin each hour by taking roll and starting exercises to keep everyone in top physical condition. Not only do they help in the teaching of new games and sports, but they also work behind the scenes by running errands, correcting papers and tests, and by making color- ful and interesting bulletin boards for all to admire. No doubt they are a big step toward keeping gym hours fun and profitable for all. 34 Janice Sutton Judy Orris Joyce Szyska Majorettes ■ . ■ ■ Mary Lou Hartway : Mrs. Ferguson, Advisor; Karen Kreger, Secretary; Teresa Criscuolo, Treasurer. Future Holds Fortunes The graduates will find themselves in many walks of life, in many climates in perhaps many continents. Wherever they will roam, whatever they will do or be, or become. . . .a part, indeed a great part of that future will be due to the many hours spent at school. To our families, our community, our State and Nation, let us all firmly pledge that what we have gained here will reflect back and in so doing will add fame and glory to R. H. S. 37 Dale H. The books are re-opened and learning begins again. The studies are nu- merous, but the rewards are endless. The activi- ties get into full swing and things settle down to an even flow of work and relaxation. The under- classmen are what make Richmond High what it is today, but the examples set forth by the Seniors are what lead them on to new and higher goals. 49 cn O Milton Fistler, President; Harvey Brown, Vice-President; Mr. Bowman, Advisor; Mr. Brown, Advisor; Jill Fryer, Secretary; Mariane Mantay, Treasurer. Oppor- tunities to meet new people and compete in all types of sports are only a few of the many ac- tivities enjoyed by its members. Seasonal sports help the program to be varied and interesting. Competition is encouraged by awarding G.A.A. emblems and letters to the active members at the close of each school year. Besides participa- tion in a full program of sports, the G.A.A. holds many dances and parties throughout the year. Every girl in school has a chance to join G.A.A. and participate in it’s sports, games, and activities.
