DEDICATION We, the members of the 1960 ECHO staff, wish to dedicate our yearbook for 1960 to Mr. Alex Nelson, our superintendent, for his tireless effort in making the dream of a new high school become a reality; to Mr. Chris Strutz, our senior custodian, for the friendly and kind manner in which he has always treated the student body; and to Mr. Ed Beier, in memoriam, for the part he played in helping pass the school bond issue. We wish to thank these men for their devotion to Richmond High School. Mr. Alex Nelson, teacher, counselor, administrator, has the unenviable duty of keeping the Richmond school system out of debt and of seeing that it functions smoothly throughout the years. He is, perhaps more than any other single in- dividual, responsible for the “new look” at Richmond High. Look at the “then” on Park Street; look at the “new” on Division; you will see the result of his labor. 2

1960 Mr. Chris Strutz, “Chris,” as he is affectionately called by students and fac- ulty alike, has been on the custodial staff since 1955. Before moving into the new school, Chris had a near impossible task, that of keeping the old building warm in winter, cool in summer, and always clean. Besides all this, he always found time to do those special jobs and favors that were so often asked of him. IN MEMORIAM . . . Mr. Ed Beier, a common name for an un- common man, Lennox township treasurer, citizen of the community, passed away on December 27, 1959. He did many things for the school and the community that have gone unreported, that are known by but a few people. Many students knew of Mr. Beier only as a man who owned a flower shop; only a few knew of him as a man interested in a good education for all, but he was, very much so. 3
