We started out 42 strong. Our first experience as Freshmen was the Freshman in- itiation day. After being properly initiated, we were able to drop our cloak of embarrassment of seeming like nthose green freshmen kidsn. We elected as our first President, Frank Carl Puls, Juniorg William Youatt was Vice-President, Clarence Hebel was Secretary, and Frances Grimm was Treasurer. Miss Velma Sweet was our adviser. The most exciting day in our Sophomore year was the day we picked our our class rings. when we had our first Day, and this started all Sophomore classes juniors talking, even' person turned around, Another big happening in our younger days was dance. Lo and behold, it fell on Valentines the tradition of that date being kept open for This was the year we kept the seniors and the freshmen joined in with them. Every time a you could hear them saying 'the Sophemores are having another party tonight, I wish our class would get together more often.n Our officers for that year were, President, Jeanne Weeks, Vice-President, Clarence Hebel, Secretary, Eunice Nortong Treasurer, Mary Lois Van Inwagen. Our class adviser was Miss Ethel Masselink. The thought that remains in all our minds about our Junior year is the day we received our class rings. Whispers could be heard all over the building--something like this--nhas Youatt still got his ring? or did she get itln or nweeks gave her ring to ? after she had it about two hoursn--or the conversation might have run something like this, 'which girl got Sprader's ring, the blonde, brunette, or the red headln Anyway, we were all happy over the thought of having our own rings, so we no longer envied the under classmen, but instead we sat around watching the under classmen envy us. Taking just as important a place is the Junior Play and the J-Hop. After practicing for eight weeks, we presented nSmart Boyn to the pub- lic. It was directed successfully by Miss Barbara Jean Smith, and we were sure that she turned us into first rate actors. We elected as our Junior class officers the following, Robert Clayton, Presidentg Frances Jean Adams, Vice-Presidentg Alice Jewell, Secretary, and Dorothy Koppenhafer, Treasurer. Our adviser was Miss Barbara Jean Smith. Now before us the Senior year--full charge of the pop stand, bake sales, and 'The Sign of the Fourn, our Thanksgiving kitchen. Many seniors will remember the of activities, dances, taking cake walks. Our Senior Play dinner given in the school sleigh ride fsome under class- men tool. To demonstrate our civic-mindedness, we sponsored a Red Cross dance. We also had a carnival with Mr. Collins acting as the policeman, and 'Doon Trudgeon as the judge. The Prom has come and gone, and we reached the finis line--graduation. The last thing to- gether, our senior trip, three days on a boat. Then we will separate to go our various ways, realizing that the happiest days were those living, working, and playing together. Chosen to head our class this year was Bill Youatt acting as President: Frank Donley as Vice-Pres- identg Eunice Norton as Secretaryg and Mary Lois Van Inwagen as Treasurer. Our adviser was Mr. M. Crouse. 45,595 W . It has played for several P.T.A. meetings, the Michigan Farmers' Convention, the Community Fair, the Senior Play, and the Junior Play. Most of the members are pretty faithful about coming to practice Monday and Thursday during school and Monday and Thursday evenings. On an average of thirty boys and girls play in the band. Most of these same students together with some town players play on the street in the regular Saturday evening band conderts during the summer months. It was the story of a girls art club that was supported by Miss Caruthers, who wishes to find out just how her money is being used. She poses as a maid and finds out that all her money is not being used for the Club. However, all is forgiven and Mrs. Jones, who runs the Club, and Desdemona, the girl she was spending the money on, start over. The Glee Club also sang at the Father and Son Banquet on February 26, 1942. ome conomic: 5 I 3 F F 2 x 0' Ha 5- ,. f , 1 'gf Yi ',- fff 1 -?' The boys played a schedule of fourteen games and won only two. The majority of the games lost were so close that a basket would have turned the tide. Rich- mond gave every school in the league a good game and would have won 1t's share had the boys grown a few inches taller. Every team they played had them beat by height. The Class C tournament was played at St. Clair. Richmond played New Haven and was defeated. Later in the tournament Algonac put out New Haven and took the Class C tournament. The team will loose three letter men by graduation, but the boys that are returning will more than make up that loss. The fans of Richmond therefore can look forward to a winning basketball team. INTER-SCHOLASTIC BASKETBALL Coach Robert E. Lane started something different in the playing of inter- scholastic basketball. Instead of letting the experienced boys play between themselves, he suggested that the boys who did not come out for basketball should play. Enough boys for four teams turned out. About thirty girls came out for it and although we couldn't participate in any inter-scholastic contests we played basket- ball among ourselves. We had two captains who chose teams. These two teams played games, working out their own plays. To- ward the end they were pretty evenly matched. Some of the girls had played basketball before and others learned how. This same group of girls will form a softball team later. During the year we were taught several steps of the schottischey. Under the leadership of Miss Hivala, the girls gym class proved educational and enjoyable. I 4 ,, , ' 8 Wai, X A V' ,F - D, ,. 4 M guns .5 fl W f 4 5 ' 4' SIM 4' ff J 2 K Z mi if 5 -db O L?
