We had our first meeting when we were asked to stand, give our name and school we previously attended. It wasn’t long before we were settled down for work with our inspiring homeroom teacher, Mrs. Doris P. Thompson. We liked her at first sight because of her cunning smile and personality. We were organized our first year under the leadership of our Class President, Rudolph Veney. After struggling through the exploratory courses of the th grade, we entered the 9th. grade still striving to go farther in education. Now that we were more advanced and knew what high school work was like, we had a rougher road to travel under the instruction of our homeroom teacher, Miss Camilla Carter. In our Freshman year, our class was organized under the leadership of our Class President, Edward Cason. We entered the 10th. grade knowing that we had just as far to go as we had been or farther to reach our goal. We were all afraid when we entered the 10th. grade because whenever Mrs. Young spoke, she meant it. After we began to know our homeroom teacher better, we found out that she was only trying to help us to be better students. Our class was organized under the leadership of our class president, Joseph Towles. We had a number of programs that year because Mrs. Young was a really hard worker providing equipment for the Physical Education De¬ partment • In 1955, we became Juniors under the leadership of our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Marguerite Pickens. Our Class President was Irving Roane. This is a year we shall never forget. We planned for the Junior-Senior Prom. We ordered our rings with the expectation of becoming seniors. Then came the school year 1956-57 This was the year we had dreamed of. This year we entered Richmond County High School as seniors. Irving Roane was selected to preside over this class. Our senior year was a busy year. We went about our work with a solemnity. Now we stand at the threshold of a large world. We know that the friends we have made, the activities we have engaged in and the lessons we have learned will always linger within us and we shall recall the years spent at Richmond County High School as the best years of our lives. We, the class of 1957, of the Richmond County High School, do hereby make and declare this to be our last will and testa¬ ment in form and manner as follows: To the school, we leave our examples and our devotion To the community, we leave character and high moral ideas. To our beloved faculty, we leave an undying love and grati¬ tude for all the help and understanding they have given us. To the Junior Class, we leave our attitude of recognizing that we are only a part of the student body and must cooperate with others if we are to make a real contribution to education. To the Sophomore Class, we bestow our ability to cooperate with the faculty and others as we have for five years. To the Freshman Class, we leave our determination, never to quit, but to reach the highest goal in life we possible can. To the 3th. Grade, we leave our ability to stay in school as well as we have and always strive to go forward. JUNIORS These students are awaiting next year when they will be seniors.
