TARGET FOR TODAY From February 1944 to the end of the war, the Kurile Islands Were battered by the North Pacihc Fleet. Shipping, airfields and canneries were smashed by tons of shells until all phases of Japanese life in the Kurile area were effectively tied up By the time the War ended all Northern apan dependent on fisheries was in an eco nomic chaos Like all the rest, Attu had plenty of snow.
