The i958 season will long be remembered as the one during which the Tigers got back on the victory trail after an extended I7 game losing streak . With Coach Bob Snow in charge the boys early showed a spirit that was certain to bring results. They scored well in every game as shown by the record printed elsewhere in this section. However, the climax came October 3rd when they turned back South High, of What Cheer, by a score of 44 to 6. They followed this with a 33 to l2 victory at Lovilla to give their fans a iust reward for the loyalty they had displayed. Homecoming on October l7 was again a gala affair. The parade and dance both received many favorable comments and carried on the high standards that has come to characterize these events. The usual Football Feed, provided by the parents, was supplemented this year by a banquet followed by a dance at the Rubio Community Center sponsored by Mr. and Mrs . A . J . Steinbeck and the employees of the Rubio Motor Company. A trip to see the Iowa Hawkeyes play also ranks among the highlights of the l958 football season . 'Our Boys' Basketball Squad The success of the boys' basketball team was one of the pleasant surprises of the school year. Lacking height and experience, Fewgtans were optimistic enough to predict the l8-7 won-lost record the boys compiled. They added the Keokuk County Tournament and the Sectional at Fairfield to their laurels. Their style of play was polished and pleasing to watch and their hustle and initiative won them many loyal supporters . Ronnie Hahn and Charles Peterson, both seniors, were elected co-captains at the close of the season. Sixteen of the boys pictured below are eligible for competition next year.
