Vocal Music Vocal music has become an integral part of the Richland program. Under the capable direction of Mr. Bernard Onerheim, a Mixed Chorus, Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee Club, and smaller groups have been developed which have brought considerable notice to our school and community. Show- ing steady progress each year, they have reached the point where this year the Mixed Chorus re- ceived a Division I rating in the State Music Contes.. The Boys' Glee Club received a Division I rating for the second consecutive year. The Girls' Glee Club, although almost entirely lacking in first soprano voices, was accorded a Division II rating. ' The groups are frequently called upon to contribute to school and community programs. They regularly sing at Baccalaureate. This year they traveled to Fremont and Eddyville to appear in conjunction with the Concert Band. T Our ccompanist During the past year, Emma Lou Hollingsworth has acted as the accompanist for the busy Richland music groups. Her instructor has considered her most capable and her efforts are greatly appreciated by the groups she has served. 36

Our Music Plaque Display A Division I rating in a State Music Contest entitles the winner to display the official plaque of the Iowa High School Music Associ- ation. The large plaques Q represent Division I ratings won by the con- cert band, marching band, mixed chorus, or ' - glee clubs, while the smaller plaques were up- I . B awarded to ensemble groups. Many of the H Q smaller plaques carry two or three dates in- Q dicating the highest award for various ' fa I years. This display, of which we are quite proud, has received considerable attention -i-----:1-l:llll from those who visited the music room.
