Class Histor August 30, 1946, found thrrty srx freshly scrubbed begrnners of Rrchland Township School, srttrng there rn eager innocence, strarght and proper rn thelr seats, facing Mrss Hester Kay, the teacher, who would be guxdmg them through therr frrst year of educatron The class lost two students and gained slx before the year was flmshed, and srxteen of those orrgrnal boys and grrls are semors today Our second grade was taught by Mrs Dora Campbell thrrd by Mrs Helen Burgner and fourth by Mlss Catherrne Hagel Dunng our frfth year the class was d1v1ded mto two sectrons, one taught by Mrs Lena Florey, the other by Mlss Hagel Mrs Florey was aga1n our teacher rn the slxth grade When we became Junror I-hgh we thought we had really arnved Now we were out of the hamburger group and 1nto the coke crowd We began to demand autograph hounds, the color of our lrpstrck and nall polxst was far more rmportant than the color we should choose for the maps we were drawlng Our weekly date held more of our 1nterest than the date Columbus dlscovered Amerrca All at once we de crded to organrze and dxd so by electlng Dale Palm as our Presldent, Lmn Qurgle as hrs assistant an J D Smxth to look after our money Our sponsor was Mr Harold Sackmler Basketball became serrous business, and our team won the Jumor l-lxgh County Tourney As erghth grade students we elected Herbre Frsher for Preszdent and retaxned J D Smrth as secretary treasurer Donna Skelley and Max Weaver were added to our class roll Our sponsor was Mrs Lauragall Jones An outstandlng event of the year was our freld tr1p to Purdue UDIVEISIW wrth Mr Harold Dlerdorf and hrs sclence class Tlme marched on and found us as freshmen electmg Lmn Qulgle as our class presldent, Tom Houk whom we had welcomed 1nto the class, as our vrce presldent, and Davld McKelvey as secretary treasurer Our favorzte pastlme was Rock 'n Roll Mrs Elsre Welr, our sponsor, lard the foundat1on of our treasury by helpmg us to gather tomatoes and prck up corn We even cleared a freld of rocks for a local farmer and were well pard for the t1me As sophomores we were sponsored by Mrss Wllma Sutherlrn, wrth Tom Houk as presrdent, Eleanor June Wolfe as vice presldent, and Davld McKelvey bemg retarned as our secretary treasurer To rncrease our mcome we conducted a paper drlve, and the glrls baked cakes, whrch we sold rn cake walks after ball games As Jumors the girls were swoonmg over Elvrs Presley and the boys droolrng over Marrlyn Monroe To be rn charge of affarrs of the class we elected Davrd McKelvey who was assrsted by Tom Houk, and and pop com at ball games Throughout hrgh school one of our b1g money makrng affalrs was the annual St Patrrcks Day drnner and dance The Junror play, Take Your Med1c1ne,' was drrected by our sponsers, Mrs Carol Myer and Mr Kenneth Drckerson Davld McKelvey actmg as the patxent and Tom Houk as the grouchy banker made thls show a howllng success We accompanled the semors on a tr1p to the Natronal Homes and Alum1num Plant rn Lafayette, the trrp berng sponsored by Mr Lou1s Smrth and hrs chemrstry class Come sprmg we entertarned the fourteen members of the senior class ln the Wolford Hotel, Danvzlle Hawa11 was the theme, and the drnner program was furmshed by Brll Kmg, hrs wife and son recently of the Chez Paree, Ch1cago The Johnny Wmn Quartette played for the dance The flrst thmg we d1d as semors was to elect Davrd McKelvey again as presrdent, asslsted by Lmn Qurgle, and Eleanor June agam to look after the fmances We were also happy to re elect our sponsors who had so gracrously served us as Junrors We started at once to rehearse for our senror play F1nders Creepers Thrs tlme Donna Skelley and Edgar Slmmons stole the show Besrdes sponsorlng several skatrng partles at the Ill1n1 Roller Palace, we gave these three movles at school, Yotmg At Yeart Rebel Wrthout A Cause, and ' Mr Roberts ' We also sold coke and 7up at the ball gam We were royally entertalned at the Junlor Semor Prom aga1n held at the Wolford Hotel, and at the close of school we were guests of the Rlchland Alumnx Banquet, where we were mxtrated mto the soc1at1on, of whrch we are very proud to be members Most of the boys rn the class have partrcrpated ln basketball Lmn Qurgle has been a member of the varsity team throughout hrgh school Lors Rlce has been one of the yell leaders for the four years Elght of our members have had a place IH the school band, most of them for the past seven years Seven of our gxrls have been members of the chonrs for f1V6 years Thrs class has always been a mans emprre The boys have always far out numbered the grrls so their wrshes were always the ones whlch were granted rt was always therr votes that controlled most It has always been a boy who has held the hlgh offxce rn the class Ever smce Adam and Eve rt has been thus the men lead the women follow That's hlstory We look upon our school days wrth ever deepenrng nostalgra We know that was the best trme of our llves Ah, could we but relrve those golden days when the worst that could happen to us was to flunk IH Englrsh And so we go out mto the world realxzmg we are tummg our backs on the greatest source of
