School Band The school band made rts frrst appearance of the year on September 6 at the Indrana State Farr where rt partrcrpated rn the Farm Organrzatron Day Parade On September 29 the band was among a group of 150 bands Qmore than 7000 hrgh school studentsl on the Purdue grrdrron where the massed bands presented a colorful half trme show for the Purdue Mrssoun football game Other marclung exlubrtrons were prepared by the band for the basketball games at home wrth Dover Waynetown, and Covrngton Plans were made to march rn the Lafayette Chnstmas Parade however, very cold and hazardous weather prompted the group to wrthdraw from thrs parade A wrnter concert was presented rn the gymnasrum on December 18 An rnspmng carol servrce by the lugh school mrxed chorus preceded the band concert Major In all parades and marclung shows the band was ably led by Judy Robmson dnun majorette She was Jorned by Sally Robmson Marcra McKrught Karen Lawson, and Conme Martrn rn specral dancrng and twrrhng exlubrtrons w1th the band These flV6 grrls formed a new major Preparatrons for the Solo and Ensemble Contest were started rn early December A group of 32 band and choral students presented therr recrtal on Sunday afternoon February 3 and audrtxoned at the Frankfort Center on Saturday, February 9 Frrst drvrsron wrnners rn Class CC had the prrvr lege to attend the State Contest at Butler Unrversrty on February 24 Two hrghlrghts of the year were the County Band Festrval on Marcy 15 at Covrngton and the Drstnct Choral Festrval on Aprrl 12 at Attrca Both festrvals presented outstandrng musrcal programs to the Fountarn County audrences The Annual Sprrng Concert, wrth both band and choral orgaxuzatrons, was presented on Aprrl 3 rn the gymnasrum The band contest at Ladoga followed on Saturday, Apnl 6 Graduatron exercrses rn the latter part of Aprrl brought the actrvrtres for the band and chorus to a close ettes ette corps thrs year They have worked hard and drlrgently to add color and entertamment to the band's performances All wrll say therr work was well done Ensembles Two grrls' ensembles from the hrgh school chorus have made several The grrls rn the Freshman Sophomore sextet were Veneta Townsend appearances durrng the year The Jr Sr sextet was composed of Sharon Grace Srmmons, Marcra McKnrght Sally Robmson Donna Claypool an Hrnton Eleanor Wolfe Judy Robrnson, Lors Ann Rrce Pat Oakley and Lmda Overman Anne McK1nney The Arran Award The Arran Award rs presented annually to the outstandrng graduatmg senror rn musrc Junror Brown was the recrpment of thrs award Durrng hrs srx years rn Seruor Band he has held the offrces of Secretary Treas urer Vxce Presrdent, and Presrdent Dunng hrs semor year he held the fnrst charr posrtron rn the clarrnet sectron Jumor has partrcrpated rn all SPONSORED BY DON 'S BODY SHOP HOT POINT TV'S band actrvrtres rncludrng marchmg and concert contests and County Band F estrvals He also assumed remonsrbrhtres rn solo and ensemble contests rn both the drstnct and the state The Arran Award rs truly an honor, one whrch Jumor has wortlnly achreved SPONSORED BY ERNEST MYER INSURANCE AGENCY Mellott, Indaana Hrllsboro, Indrana 27 ' 1 1 v ' - 5 I , . , . , . , . . 1 - ' . . . .- -. . . , , 7 d 1 2 7 1 ' I , .. - ' x ' ' . - . .
