Second Grade KERR TRACTOR AND IMPLEMENT CO. MELLOTT 8: COVINGTON The second grade welcomed three new members to their class during the school year. They are Jeffry Bush from Indianapolis, Paul Johnston from Wheaton, Illinois and Homer Griswald from Coal Creek. The boys entertained the girls at a Halloween Party, this year which was something different. This is an unusually talented group. McKELVI12Y HARD WARE Newtown, Indiana Under the direction of their newleader, Mrs. Shade, the band has played a big part in school activities to a degree of which we all should be proud. One of the biggest events in which they participated was the marching parade at Purdue University. The twirlers marched before the ga me and the ba nd marched at the half. The annual Band Festival was held at Covington. The bands from Fountain County and Williamsport, as amass group, spent the entire day practicing. A well attended concert was given that night. The band marched at four home ballgames and also performed special marching numbers. Several band concerts were prepared and given in the gymnasium. One concert was devoted to contest numbers prepared for the Ensemble Contest. Two months of grueling practice was spent in pre- paring for the Ensemble Contest. The fine results were enough to compensate for the time and effort that was devoted to practice. Playing at commencement concluded another school year of band activities. Six members of the band were members of the 1956 graduating class. ROW 1.
