THE 1971 COM- MENCEMENT PRO- GRAM COMES TO AN END ALL IS OVER! Tom Scheerer, Eddie Boyd, David Posten, and other seniors pass between the bleach- ers as the recessional takes them thru open doors and out into the great world. IT IS FINISHED! It seemed it would never be ! Schedules to complete and deadlines to meet! Research pa- pers in English to do; walnut bowls, cedar chests, cabinets in shop to finish; wire gates, loading chutes, pickup truck racks in Vo. Ag. to build; experiments in science to master; a school newspaper to get out; high point sales- manship for magazines in Home Ec. to win; endless practice for the Christmas Musical Pro- gram and songs for Commencement; test after test; tiring hours of homework . . . May 20, the last day of school, would never come ! But it did! And we wonder with what ease we did get the necessary things done, and usually on time ! Now we look back and wonder why we thought it would be so hard, and so endless. The answer to that is perhaps one of the lessons we learn in school-life along with our book- learning. Gradually we learn that while the im- possible takes a little longer, we can do that too. And so the school yearbook, your RICH - LANDER, is also finished. As we write these last words, on Monday morning after school ended on Thursday, the classrooms are vacant; the halls very quiet. Miss Joyce passes by the open door to the Journalism room and says she will finish her work by the end of the week, and then be gone ... to get married on June 18. Happy anticipations ! ! ! Henry is beginning clean-up work for the summer. He says it will be lonely. We agree with him. The desks covered with pictures to be sorted and made ready for inclusion in the 1971 An- nual are now empty. The typewriter carriages are motionless and their keys silent. The paper-cluttered floor can be seen once more and the disarranged chairs are in order. In a few moments the 168 page (in these last hours now grown to 180) format for the Annual will pass out of this room for the last time on its way to the yearbook printers at Hannibal, Mo., from which it will return in the shape of a brand-new, print-smelling and lovely book. In the meantime while it is away and we are ab- sent getting ready for a larger life, our flag continues to wave over the building where we have worked and labored so hard and where it will again greet many of you returning in September. The Yearbook Class wishes to express special thanks to Mr. C Mrs. Howard French of the French Studios, Lebanon, for their photographic help. We wish to thank the students and faculty for their help. And we are deeply grateful and appreciative to Mr. Earl Brown, our Journalism instructor and Yearbook sponsor, for his gui- dance and encouragement during the prepara- tion of this book . . . Most of the photography in these pages came out of his darkroom, often done while the rest of us were sleeping soundly in our bedrooms at home. The Yearbook Class 180 Q$) Autographs
