Gymnasium Building Administration Building Dedication We, the Senior class of '58 wish to dedicate our annual to our sponsors. Miss MacFarland and Mr. Prewett, who have so willingly given of their time and interest to further our education and make life more beneficial to us, as well as others. Miss MacFarland and Mr. Prewett, we dedicate this annual to you as a 4 symbol of our appreciation. Superintendent Arnold C. Franklin, Jr., our new superintendent, was born in Benton, Arkansas, where he also attended school. Mr. Franklin received his Bachelor of Science degree at the Henderson State Teachers College, Master of Education degree at the University of Arkansas, and took additional graduate study at the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri. Mr. Franklin taught at Garlin and Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and at Phillipsburg, Missouri, before superintending Richland schools. Mrs. Francis Jensen: Secretary to Superintendent. 7 Principal Our principal, Mr. William A. Young, was born in Dyer, Arkansas, on May 16, 1928. He attended grade and high school at the LeRoy Public Schools in LeRoy, Kansas. Mr. Young received his A. B. degree at the College of Emporia at Emporia, Kansas. From 1950 to 1954 Mr. Young taught grade school at Benedict, Kansas. In 1954 he was Superintendent of Schools for one-half of the school year, before entering the United States Army. In August of 1957 Mr. Young received his Masters Degree from Pittsburg State Teachers College at Pittsburg, Kansas. In September, 1957, we received the honor of his presence as principal of Richland High School. Juanita Moales: Secretary to Principal. 8 ARNOLD C. FRANKLIN, JR. MQALES Secretary to the Principal 13 Class History In September, 1946, a group of wide-eyed children entered the doors of the first grade into the loving arms of Mrs. Martha Simpson. The ones that have remained throughout the next 12 years of schooling were: MARTHA BAILEY, DOREL EAKEN, JACKSON SHEELEY, BILL SHIPLEY, LARRY CECIL SMITH, RAYMOND WARDEN, and CLYDE WILSON. Also with us were: CARL WATSON, EDDIE POSTEN, PAT FELDMILLER, WAYNE ANDERSON, MARILYN BLACK, LARRY WATSON, and MARGARET OGLE. Our second year Larry and Margaret ceased to be with us, but PAT HANCOCK joined our happy troop under the guidance of Miss Gray. The year 1948 found us in the third grade, with Miss Martha Hoover as teacher. Larry Watson rejoined us. The pride of our hearts was the colorful Spanish display we made. As capable fourth graders, we received VIOLET and VERA ANDERSON, HELEN JONES, BILLIE KAY ROAM, and MARGARET OGLE to our class, under the wing of Miss Betty Boyd. We lost Pat Feldmiller and Eddie Posten. Miss Maye Robinson piloted us through our fifth year. We gained KAY SCOTT, and JEAN ROBESON while finding that Marilyn, Vera, Violet, and Carl were no longer with us. New members in our sixth year were JUDY WELLNER and RAY HOLDMAN. Carl's familiar face appeared back with us. Mr. Leonard Hughes was our teacher. As proud Junior-Highers, we entered the seventh grade under the capable guidance of Miss Pauline Thornsberry and Mr. Fred Harris. JACK McLAIN joined our class. At the end of the year we found out that Marilyn, Wayne, and Carl would attend Laquey their eighth year. In 1953, we were in the eighth grade, eagerly looking forward to graduation, with the hope that we would all graduate. Mrs. Pauline Strain and Mrs. Louisa Peterson finally succeeded in their efforts, and in May, 1954, each of us walked forward to receive his diploma. About half of our number joined us as freshmen. These were: LINDA NICKS, RUBY WALKER, BILL LARSON, CAROLYN MILLER, RONALD HENDRIX, JOYCE RAYL, DAVID BOREN, WILMA SMITH, FRANKIE DYE, VERA and VIOLET ANDERSON, WAYNE ANDERSON, PAT FELDMILLER, CARL WATSON and EDDIE POSTEN. As Green Freshmen, we didn't get all the bad kicks. Two wonderful sponsors, Miss McFarland and Mr. Prewett, were selected to remain with us throughout our four years of high school. TALMADGE McDANIEL came to R. H. S. our Sophomore year. Our class trip to Rockaway Beach was the outstanding feature. Our Junior year, Mr. Schrimsher, our former superintendent, moved to Columbia; consequently, we lost a valuable student. Bill Schrimsher. To join our midst were LARRY JOE SANDERS, DIANNA APPLEBY, and KEN GREELY. In 1957 , we were SENIORS. JOHN STEFFY and STAN GEARHEART joined our happy carefree throng. The only student to leave our class thus far has been Jack McLain, a most admired student and a great contribution to any senior class. Our greatest goal: Our Senior Trip. For the past 12 years we have looked forward to the day we would receive our diplomas and walk through the doors to a future of our own making. But I am sure that we all shall always look back on dear ole R. H. S. with warmth in our hearts and fond memories. 16 Twelve - Year Students Homecoming - Senior Sponsored Senior Class of '58 - Officers Larry Watson - Dianna Appleby President Clyde Wilson----- Secretary Raymond Warden - Wayne Anderson - Reporter MOTTO: Always Forward FLOWER: American Beauty Rose COLORS: Sky Blue ancf Silver -Vice President - - Treasurer Napoleon was a little man too Parliamentary procedure —3,4 F. When we began looking for ways to prophesy correctly the futures of our classmates, a strange e ent took place just in time to help us. Raymond Warden was driving home from a ball game when a rare vehicle drew across the road and stopped him. A tiny little man, making beep, beep noises, approached him, injected a prophesing fluid into his arm. As this seemed to be his only purpose, he extended into his shiny space ship and departed. When Raymond discovered the extraordinary trait, which he now possessed, he hurried to us, because he knew we could use his assistance. He said we would all be surprised at Bill Larson, who has entered into politics and is now the Governor of the State of Washington. Tudy Wellner is singing with the current rage of the juke box, The Tones , and she promised that she would bring them to our class reunion. Clyde Wilson has just signed a new contract to build the new houses in Richland's million dollar subdivision. Connie helps him faithfully as she cares for their rapidly growing family (last count, 6). Larry Toe Sanders has taken the Lone Ranger's place; and David Boren, when not testing bubble gum, acts as Tonto . As you have probably guessed, David Boren's full time job is testing bubble gum. Martha Bailey and Margaret Ogle operate a beauty school and modeling agency. Billie Kay Roam manufactures Lady's Comfy Sleep Wares. The reason for her great success is that she has invented a new color, of which all her sleep ware is made. Poor John Steffy went to look through the giant telescope at Mt. Palamore, California and broke it. He is still picking up the pieces. Larry Smith is now the Vocational Agriculture Teacher at our own Alma Mater. You've heard of Seeley Postropedic Mattresses, no doubt. Just add an H and make it Sheely, and you'll know what business Jackson's in. In his mind, Raymond was at the World Champion Wrestling Match of 1968 and passed the word along to that Bucky Hendrix was the winner. Bill Shipley owns the largest barber shop in Missouri, and has lowered the price of a haircut to 50£ so no one can say they can't afford it. Toyce Rayl is a Home Economics Teacher now, and the reason for her great success is that she guarantees any girl who finishes third year home economics a husband. Raymond said the thing that would shock us the most was the fact that Wayne Anderson is a preacher in one of the largest Baptist Churches in the world, and firmly believes that once saved, always saved. Linda Nicks has been classed as one of the ten best dressed women of the world. The reason for this is Bill Wyatt's success as a contractor. Donald Wilson and Talmadge McDaniel have gone into Dairy Farming; and all over the world Tal-Don is sold as the milk with the personality . Helen Jones was deep with disappointment because her mother would not let her join the Air Force. When Elvis Presley made a personal appearance at Fort Leonard Wood, and she went to see him, he asked her to marry him. She accepted, and they eloped. Vera and Violet Anderson decided they were going to look alike, and they entered the hospital to have plastic surgery; but after the operation was over, and the bandages finally removed, they were shocked to find out that Violet looked like Vera before, and Vera looked like Violet before, so they were right back where they started from. 26 Ken Greelv is in the Bicycle manufacturing business. The only trouble is that every bicycle is yellow. If you would tune in to station ZYZ from 12:00 to 3:00 a.m., the alluring voice of Miss Midnight would greet you. In real life she is Pat Feldmiller at her favorite past- time, talking. Frankie Dye, contrary to his last name, is in the bleach-making business. Dianna Appleby runs a marital relations clinic. Her method really works. When asked by young people for advice, she says, Just don't get married . Pat Hancock got married not too long after school was out, and by Pat's and Don's scrimping and saving, they have now bought Warren's Store. lean Robeson joined the Air Force a month after graduation, and has now become a registered nurse and is engaged to a Colonel. Carolyn Miller is a torch singer at her husband's night club, The Opposite of Heaven . Ray Holdman now owns the largest turkey farm and hatchery in the United States and advertises them as the Polts with a Past . Larry Watson did get an appointment to West Point and broke all basketball scoring records and was first in his class. He is now a captain, and coaches at West Point. Raymond said if you would look on any sheet music which western stars sing, you would find the lyrics are written by Ruby Jane Walker. Guess who is 6 feet tall? It's Carl Watson. He is the men's champion high diver and has just signed a life contract to appear on TV every Saturday. Leo McDaniel is now warden of Missouri State Penitentary. Eddie Posten calls for the world's champion square dance team. Guess what Marilyn Black is doing? While she was on her vacation in Hawaii, as a joke, she put on a hula hula skirt, and hasn't taken it off yet. Arthur Godfrey was searching for a new Hawaiian dancer and spotted Marilyn. If you want to see her, just turn your TV when Arthur announces May-Lay-Kay. Stan Gearhart was so in love with his little Studebaker that when the Studebaker Corporation was put up for sale, he borrowed the money from Mr. Murphy and bought it. Kay Scott Shivers is finally taking her prolonged honeymoon to Hawaii. The only sad thing is—they have to take their three sets of twins with them. Wilma Smith is Tack McLain's secretary. Maybe this doesn't sound spectacular, but that's where you are wrong. Our own Jack has taken Elvis Presley's place---side burns, wiggles and all. With all his fans, that means a big job for Wilma. Just at the moment Raymond began to predict his future, we heard beep, beep noises, and he was gone. 27 Class Will, and Testament of the Senior Class of 1958 We, the Senior Class, leave to the underclassmen all the kindness, and all the unkindness the teachers have shown us, uncompleted plans for a sneak day, unused plans to raise money, and all the fun we have experienced being Seniors; plus the individual wills each one of us leave. STRICTLY SHAPESPEARE SHORTHAND - Betty left this job for a bettor paying on —that of being Mrs. Raymond Pruitt. It doesn't take throe to check the roll, but for a picture, we thought three heads were better than one. Thoy don't always sit on the stops during office hours, but it makes for a better picture. Helping in the office is a good way to get lots of exercise. Richland High Students don dress-up clothes and dress-up manners as they attend the chapel services sponsored by the Student Council. We had three chapels; one at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter; with a local minister giving an address and our music department rendering special music. We had a lot of fun, but also did a lot of work on the production of our three one-act plays: The Trysting Place , The Star Baby Sitter and Minor Miracle .
