Next year, we were in high school! With the help of our sponsor Miss McFarland, and all the other high school teachers, we managed to choose the subjects with which we thought we would be most comfortable. We had gained many new members. They were Marilyn Kissinger, Marilyn Drennan, Kathy Williams, La Moine Black, Don Ogle, Don Boren, Don Raines, John McLain, Anna Ledbetter, Merrel Payne; and claimed another of our old members—Norma Posten. We decided not to take a long trip during our first three years, but to earn enough to take a long trip our senior year. We went to Bennett Springs for our class picnic. Our Sophomore year we had all of our old gang back with a new sponsor. Mrs. Humphrey joined forces with Miss McFarland and they sponsored us that year. We went to the Lake of the Ozarks and came back by Lebanon and went skating on our class picnic. When we were Juniors, we sponsored a banquet at the Colonial Restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. We had a picnic at the river that year in order to save our money for Senior trip. Our sponsors were Mrs. Traw and Mr. Schrimsher. This year we have been so busy trying to make money to go on an extended class trip that we have had little time for other outside school activities. We have gained three new students. Theyare Kenneth Ross, Joyce Dixon, and Bob Reid. Our sponsors are Mrs. Traw and Miss Rathbun.

K lass In the fall of 1944, there were S3 boys and girls who enrolled in Richland Elementary School. There are ten of these still here. They are Barbara Carnes, Julia Douglas, Mary Bailey, Robert Roam, and David Kissinger, Larry Powers, Ronnie Osborne, Norma Posten, and Sherill Shelton. To start us off on our new venture, we had Mrs. Martha Simpson. She failed to rejoin us after the Christmas holidays but Mrs. Meta Chalfant undertook the task of guiding us through the rest of the first year. In the second grade, we were met by Mrs. Anderson. That year we learned to write. Norma Posten failed to join us and David Kissinger left us in the middle of that year, but we gained Holly Ogle. We had a picnic at Frisco Park at the end of the year. Next year, we moved on to the third grade. Our teacher was Miss Martha Hoover. We learned our multiplication tables. Some of the pupils helped present a play for the P. T.A. John Steffy left us the middle of that year. Our fourth year, we had Miss Betty Boyd as our teacher. We learned how to divide in Arith- metic. We also had an Easter Egg hunt on the playground that year. In the middle of the year, Barbara Carnes left us and went to California. Our fifth grade teacher was Mrs. Maye Robinson. Two of our old students. Holly Ogle and Sherril Shelton, failed to join us. We welcomed three new students, Ralph Jones, Shirley Clark, and Ray Fishback. Three of our old students came back, they were David Kissinger, Norma Posten, and John Steffy. Next year, we progressed to the sixth grade, where Mrs. Ethel Batterton met us. We made note-books of maps of the world and health note-books. We welcomed Holly Ogle back, and gained two new students. Our new students were Ronnie Stout and Robert Fancher. We had an Easter party and a masquerade party on Halloween. At the end of the year we went to the park for a party. Most of the kids dressed up in funny riggings that day. The next year, we ascended to Noble Heights—We were finally on the top floor 1 Mrs. Pauline Thornsberry Strain was our home room teacher and Mr. Fred Harris taught us Social Studies. Our main aim that year was to take a long trip with the eighth grade at the end of school. Our destination was St. Louis. By sponsoring a cake walk and a scrap-iron drive we finally raised enough money to charter a bus. Barbara Carnes came back that year and we welcomed a new student—Wayne Simpson. The next year brought us back to the same sponsors and the same home room. We had three new students. They were Pat Browning, John Kays, and Ethel Davenport. We again ventured back to St. Louis for our class trip. At the end, some of us becamea bit fearful lest maybe we wouldn't graduate, but we did. 14
