There are ten of these still here. They are Barbara Carnes, Julia Douglas, Mary Bailey, Robert Roam, and David Kissinger, Larry Powers, Ronnie Osborne, Norma Posten, and Sherill Shelton. To start us off on our new venture, we had Mrs. Martha Simpson. She failed to rejoin us after the Christmas holidays but Mrs. Meta Chalfant undertook the task of guiding us through the rest of the first year. In the second grade, we were met by Mrs. Anderson. That year we learned to write. Norma Posten failed to join us and David Kissinger left us in the middle of that year, but we gained Holly Ogle. We had a picnic at Frisco Park at the end of the year. Next year, we moved on to the third grade. Our teacher was Miss Martha Hoover. We learned our multiplication tables. Some of the pupils helped present a play for the P. T.A. John Steffy left us the middle of that year. Our fourth year, we had Miss Betty Boyd as our teacher. We learned how to divide in Arith- metic. We also had an Easter Egg hunt on the playground that year. In the middle of the year, Barbara Carnes left us and went to California. Our fifth grade teacher was Mrs. Maye Robinson. Two of our old students. Holly Ogle and Sherril Shelton, failed to join us. We welcomed three new students, Ralph Jones, Shirley Clark, and Ray Fishback. Three of our old students came back, they were David Kissinger, Norma Posten, and John Steffy. Next year, we progressed to the sixth grade, where Mrs. Ethel Batterton met us. We made note-books of maps of the world and health note-books. We welcomed Holly Ogle back, and gained two new students. Our new students were Ronnie Stout and Robert Fancher. We had an Easter party and a masquerade party on Halloween. At the end of the year we went to the park for a party. Most of the kids dressed up in funny riggings that day. The next year, we ascended to Noble Heights—We were finally on the top floor 1 Mrs. Pauline Thornsberry Strain was our home room teacher and Mr. Fred Harris taught us Social Studies. Our main aim that year was to take a long trip with the eighth grade at the end of school. Our destination was St. Louis. By sponsoring a cake walk and a scrap-iron drive we finally raised enough money to charter a bus. Barbara Carnes came back that year and we welcomed a new student—Wayne Simpson. The next year brought us back to the same sponsors and the same home room. We had three new students. They were Pat Browning, John Kays, and Ethel Davenport. We again ventured back to St. Louis for our class trip. At the end, some of us becamea bit fearful lest maybe we wouldn't graduate, but we did. 14 Next year, we were in high school! With the help of our sponsor Miss McFarland, and all the other high school teachers, we managed to choose the subjects with which we thought we would be most comfortable. We had gained many new members. They were Marilyn Kissinger, Marilyn Drennan, Kathy Williams, La Moine Black, Don Ogle, Don Boren, Don Raines, John McLain, Anna Ledbetter, Merrel Payne; and claimed another of our old members—Norma Posten. We decided not to take a long trip during our first three years, but to earn enough to take a long trip our senior year. We went to Bennett Springs for our class picnic. Our Sophomore year we had all of our old gang back with a new sponsor. Mrs. Humphrey joined forces with Miss McFarland and they sponsored us that year. We went to the Lake of the Ozarks and came back by Lebanon and went skating on our class picnic. When we were Juniors, we sponsored a banquet at the Colonial Restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. We had a picnic at the river that year in order to save our money for Senior trip. Our sponsors were Mrs. Traw and Mr. Schrimsher. This year we have been so busy trying to make money to go on an extended class trip that we have had little time for other outside school activities. We have gained three new students. Theyare Kenneth Ross, Joyce Dixon, and Bob Reid. Our sponsors are Mrs. Traw and Miss Rathbun. ANNA LEDBETTER—Curly hair Is her trademark. F.H.A., F. H.A. The problem of being able to take a ten-year look into the futures of the members of the Class of 1957 was solved when Ronnie Stout announced the completion of his time machine and offered its use to the Senior Class. Here is an accurate record of what the time-machine revealed to us who watched it. Sherril Shelton recently found such a hot strike in Alaska, where he is prospecting for uranium, that the government traded him a third share in Fort Knox for it. John McLain, after designing the new RHS building and gaining world-wide fame for his original creations, grew tired of it all and retired from his position of reknown to become, perhaps, the only bum in the world with a $2,197,450.38 bank account. Ronnie Osborne joined the F.B.I. The time-machine flashed Top Secret across the screen so I can't give you any more information about him. David Kissinger is in training with the 1968 U.S. Olympics Basketball Team. He really has the Russians worried. They seem to consider him some sort of secret weapon. Robert Fancher is under-study for the Secretary General of the U.N. To our surprise, we saw that Robert stood 6'4 as he dusted off the top of the S.G. 's desk. We happened to catch the Secretarial Convention of 1967 in Chicago and there we saw Marilyn Drennan who is secretary to a Texas oil tycoon. Marilyn Kissinger happened to be on vacation from her position as secretary to the American ambassador to Italy. She reports that she loves Italy—and the Italians. Norma Posten and Kathy Williams run the “Silver Fox Beauty Salon in fashionable New York and have bleached their hair platinum. Pat Browning had just won the Grand Prize in the National Recipe Contest for her raspberry preserves but was unable to go to New York to receive the prize because her youngest had the measles. Robert Roam is secretary to Prof Fulbright at M. U. Robert writes up most of the test papers-- just the questions. John Steffy, more commonly known in the sports world as The Terror of the 40-Yard Line, has just made the All-American Football Team. Some senator got mixed up and Kenneth Ross ended up at Annapolis instead of West Point. With the rank of Lieutenant Commander, Kenneth now enjoys a popular position in the Department of Defense in Washington D.C. Tohn Earl Kays was recently appointed 13th Vice-President at United Aircraft Corporation. Bob Reid is designing wallpaper for a big wallpaper firm in Boston. Ray Fishback is a radar operator on the Navy's new X-7 jet (so fast that it can complete a mission practically before you hear it take off). Ethel May Davenport is now an airline hostess for United Airlines. She was recently voted The Girl With Whom I Would Most Like To Crash On A Desert Island by the pilots of that Airlines Company. We picked up a copy of The Houston Chronical , hot off the press, to find the column of Julian Ann Douglas, world reknown foreign correspondent. She writes in the new international language. Mary Bailey is working on a M.A. which she is getting from Washington University in her spare time from her position on the staff at School of Nursing, St. Louis Baptist Hospital. The girl whom we knew as Barbara Carnes is married to a staff surgeon at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. Barbara, herself a registered nurse, still has trouble taking her patients! temperatures —they're always above normal. Shirley Bowen had just won an all-expense paid Caribbean Cruise for her and her family on ABC-TV's Treasure Hunt. La Moine Black is working for the Federal Bureau of Internal Revenue. Anna Ledbetter is secretary to the Secretary-of-the-Treasury. Tovce Dixon has a fine family-raised basketball team and her husband is a coach. One disturbing thought--out of five children (4 boys, 1 girl) her 5-year old daughter is the best shot. Ralph Tones is running a profitable T.V. Repair Shoppe in St. Louis. For only $5 he will come to your house. For $10 more, he'll look at your T.V. The only place in the U.S. where the manager of a supermarket occasionally forgets himself and carries a customer's bag of groceries out to his car is in Birmingham, Ala. That dignified executive is none other than Donald Raines. Wayne Simpson is a librarian in a small North Dakota college town. The U.S. finally realized its dream of a second canal between Atlantic and Pacific and sent Merrel Payne to Nicaragua where he is operating a caterpillar tractor clearing the jungle. General Motors has Larry Powers testing the latest of its new models over the roughest testing course yet invented. The manufacturers aren't worried so much about replacing the cai—it's Larry. Don Ogle has a 500 acre farm in Australia. Don't ask us how he got there. Coach Holiday Ogle was discussing strategy with his high school basketball team at the state (Maine) tournament. Said that this is the best team that he's had yet. Don Boren was so fascinated by experiments in Chemistry that he decided to spend the rest of his life doing them. Right now he is—was—making a new explosive. When we tried to determine Ronnie Stout's future, he fed the time-machine a marble thus jamming the controls. Not so fast but what we didn't catch a glimpse of him standing on the bridge of a rockin' and rollin' U.S. Forrestal looking a little seasick! Thus with the members of the Class of '57 so honorably represented in the world, we shall close this worthy documert with the wards uttered by an unknown inventor of the only time-machine, No more shall I ever tamper with the future. It frightens me! So Be It As It Is Written. 23 We, the Senior Class of Richland High School, aware that we are soon to depart for this life of practice sets, noisy study halls, trampolines, and basketball, do hereby declare on this 2 3rd day of May 1957, our last will and testament as follows: To Miss McFarland we leave our upopened history books.
