da ss (t story In the year of 1944, Monday morning at 9:00 A. M. twenty-eight tots entered the Richland Grade School. Our first teacher, Mrs. Martin, seemed very dis- appointed in us and decided to leave. After four other teachers, we finally wound up with Mrs. Clarice Appling. Those attending with us were Tommy Dodson, Wilda Appling, Robert Jackson, Gary Powers, Fern Perkins, Bobby Bade, Evelyn Powers, Verda Watson, Morris Williams, Warren Pemberton, Shirley Wilson, Wayne Eakens, Doris Ogle, and Joyce Scott. We read Dick and Jane. In our second year we gained a few. Those were Shirley Shelton, Marilyn Brandon, Paul Carnes, and Oliver Thompson. Our teacher was Mrs. Newcome, who was very patient through our rowdyness. In the third grade we gained a few who remained with us. They are Rex Noe, Jerry Black, and Robert Howlett. Miss Velma Robinson was our first teacher, she later married and left us. Mrs. Meta Chalfant then took over. We made a dictionary that year and wrote our numbers to i0, 000. We also learned to multiply. Miss Betty Boyd stayed with us throughout the fourth year. We made a grocery store and paper money. We also wrote radio scripts. Mrs. Ethel Batterton greeted us our fifth year. She introduced us to the fract- ions and to strict ruling. We presented a play that year, titled The Princess that Couldn't Cry . We gained Sue Ramsey that year. The sixth grade we were greeted by Mrs. Batterton again. During that year we were broken from the habit of whispering. We also had a health chart that year which proved that we were immaculate ? (meaning clean) The seventh grade brought us three new students. These were Emma Bailey, Price Keller, and C. J. Scott. Our teachers were Miss Pauline Thornsberry, and Freddie Harris. We were very proud to be promoted upstairs. We joined the eighth grade for our class trip and went to Stark Caverns and Lake of the Ozarks. Our same teachers remained with us through the eighth grade. We had one new student Jesse Groce. We sponsored a scrap iron drive that year to send us along with the seventh grade to St. Louis for our trip. Next came high school with many new classmates. The classmates were George Berry, Elaine Hendrix, JoAnn Hammock, Diane Downing, Dannie Dye, Louis Hurley, Kenneth Davenport. Miss McFarland was our sponsor and our trip took us to Jefferson City, and Lake of the Ozarks. Many of us took part in the Operetta, The Bells of Corneville. The tenth year brought us a new student, Jim McLain. Our activities that year included a part in the operetta, The Fortune Teller, a skating party to Lebanon, a scavenger hunt, and a class trip to St. Louis. Our sponsor for that year was Mr. Moffatt. We were gradually climbing to the top. We were in our eleventh year with two wonderful sponsors. Mrs. Dippert and Mr. Fulbright. We ordered our class rings early and received them in February of our Junior year. In spite of the rain we took a trip to the Lake and that evening to Lebanon skating, and the movies. We presented a play, Lost Horizon. We provided the seniors with a very colorful banquet. The theme was String of Pearls . After the banquet, we took an enjoyable trip on the Larry Don at the Lake of the Ozarks. Now we are at the top. Apparently our sponsors liked us and wanted to continue with us. The Juniors have provided us with a very nice banquet. We have had many parties this year which included a Sadie Hawkins Stomp. Our Senior trip took us on a three day vacation to Lake Taneycomo. We had our Senior pictures taken and we ordered our caps and gowns, cards and invitations. We gave five plays this year. They were Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, I'm a Fool, House with the Twisty Windows, Fifteenth Candle, and Ramona. Preparing the annual has been one of the highlights of this year. We sincerely hope that all remaining classes enjoy their Senior year as we have. 8
