The fall of ‘48 came and we were eighth graders. This year Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Elizabeth Shipman, and Marvin Wilson joined our class this year. We made notebooks on “Evangaline”, “First Aid”, “Presidents”, “United States”, “In- sects and Machines”. Lucille Prichett and Maxine Harmon left our class. We went to Jefferson City for our class picnic. We went through the state capitol and on the way home stopped by Bagnell Dam for boat riding. Our graduation exercises were held May 12, with 50 graduates. We had a modern graduation and gave readings and songs instead of the usual Valedictorian and Salutatorian speeches. The girls wore pastel formals and the boys wore suits. 1948 and “green” freshman entered Richland High School. New students this year were: Mary Bob Clark, Dillwood Tabor, Elva Lane, Evelyn Fbote, Amy Carr, Doris Jean Manes, and Earl Tanner. We learned the Preamble and Gettysburg Address. Before the year was over we had lost Barbara LaOuey and Gary Watkins, who moved to Lebanon and Ralph Gideon to Stroutland. Mrs. Wills and Mr. Miller went with us to Springfield to Doling for our picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Ruble were the sponsers of the “Silly Sophomores”. Jack Walker from Indiania came to join our class. Also Evelyn and Lindell Anderson and Sharon Ramsey. Bennets Springs and Lebanon were our picnic ground s this year. When our Junior year began we had three new members: Douglas Davis, Karl Stout, and La Donne Bartlett. This year was full of activity for us “Jolly Juniors”. We presented a three act play “Quit your Kidding” and published the school paper-- “Bear Tales”. We gave a farewell party to Bobby Coyle and Sharon Ramsey. La Verne McDaniel left us and went to St. Louis. In Mav we gave a banquet for the Seniors. We used the “Circus” for a theme and built a large tent from colored crepe paper, in the gym. Our program consisted of a circus parade. Our Senior year, we kept the same sponsers, Mrs. Ruble and Mr. Moffatt. Our class rings came the third week of school and were envied by all the lower classmen. We have given four one act plays: “The Best Teacher”, “Leave It To Joe”, “Mag- nolia Blooms”, and “Life With Willie”. Sneak Day took the gang to Jefferson City and then on to Columbia where we visited the University Campus and attended the Class A State Basketball Tournament. We have received our senior pictures and ordered invitations and cards. Preparing the annual has been one of the highlights of this year. Our class officers are: President- Karl Stout; treasurer- Doris Jean Manes vice president- Orville Roberts; secretary- Margaret Howlett. We have been so busy this year , we haveq’t had time to act our rank, but the com- mencement exercises we hope to be aeting like “dignified” seniors.
