PREVIEW OF NEXT YEAR'S LINE THE JUNIORS' CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT GOVERNMENT Playing Q leading role in the affairs of Student Council are Joe Greathouse, Barbara Davis, and Carol Knipple, A fourth member was not able to be present for the picture so ,, L- . Due to changing styles and fads, the Juniors will be with us for only one more year. Despite a late start in the extra curricular phase of activities, they pulled through successfully with the help of their adviser, Miss Sue Green, They sponsored two dances which drew excellent support from all their fellow students, and the sale of Christmas candy set a new high in volume, Built to withstand extraordinary conditions, their officers as they appear above were Larry Vince, Vice President, Barbara Davis, Secretary, Brooklyn Levengood, Treasurer, and James Wingard, President, Important events in their lives included the selection of felt goods and the selection of the class ring design. Selected for the highest honor ol his class, Bill Reed served the Sophomores well as their president. His vice president was Jerry Hudson, and Joan Dcliiase and Carol Ritter received the secretarial and treasury posts, Miss Riddell accepted the adviser's post, and under her guidance a lively but woll planned party was held in the gymnasium, Lilac and black were chosen as the class colors, the Carnation was agreed upon as the tlower, and the motto: Doing Little Things Good is a Step Toward Doing Big Things Better, reflects the true spirit of those who would make a worth- while contribution in life. The World History Class which is substantially a Sophomore group was talcen on a guided tour ol Pittsburgh on November 8, l956, by their teacher Miss Sue Green. Accompanying the group also were Miss Lois Kindelberger and William Smith. First among the stopping places was the famous Phipps Conservatory for a brief glimpse of the flower show. Other places visited included the Carnegie Museum, the Fort Pitt Block House, the Aviary, and the Historama exhibit. Can you imagine our Sophomores gazing in rapt attention at the stars? Well, they did lust that at the Slcy Show in the Buhl Planetarium. In the Oakland section they visited the Cathedral of Learning, the Stephen Foster Memorial, and the Heinz Memorial Chapel. DIAMOND GEMS OF 1956 This hard-hitting, fast-playing ball club is good for high school competition, but a bit under par for World Series play. The co-ordinated unit performs best on afternoons when school is in session-has been tested under extreme heat and light rain, but is seriously handicapped when precipitation reaches shower proportions, The 1956 testing schedule was reduced to three games because of rain.
