As a whole, district basketball produced a large number of high-scoring con- tests, and individual scorers had a big time as field goals were a dime a dozen. Many local squads consistently hit the fifties as star players averaged close to twenty points per game. The man-to-man defense, which was used extensively during the campaign, was often torn to shreds as sharp-shooters did iust about the same to the nets. All in all, basketball was mostly offensive, and provided many fast, exciting games despite the new three-minute rule. Richland had its share of high-scoring thrillers throughout the year, The Rams totaled 837 points for an average of 46.5 per contest. Several times the Red and Blue dribblers passed the fifty-mark, twice hitting the sixties. The Rams had a top-scoring forward in Steve Balogh who accounted for 287 of his team's tallies in l8 tilts. l-le and a host of other Juniors will form the backbone of next season's quintet.
