C ASS PROPHECY The year rs 1973 and I am srttrng by my open frre place rn a suburban home near Atlanta talkrng to my wrfe and small boy when 1 heard a knock at the door I opened rtand who should greet me but my old classmate at dear old R H S B111 Mayo? He was workrngfor the Acme Lollectrng Agency of New York and wanted a ten dollar payment on my televrsron set somethrngl naturally drdn t have Afterl had pawned my watch a graduatron present B111 told me we were to have a class reunron and serve barbecue for whrch I would have to cut the wood As soon as I had gotten rn the wood and removed my coat I saw two famrlrar faces comrng through the thrcket toward me One was Glen Bush rl 3 tall werghrng 210 pounds the best veterrnarran rn the state The other was Wade Bartlett the owner of the Sheet Metal Works famous throughout the south The barbecue furnrshed the frrst meal I had eaten rn two weeks As I was enjoyrng rt I notrced a handsome black headed man wrth hrs hat pulled low over one eye A second glance revealed Rhodell Dunn of the Get Your Man Detectrve Agency He had recently put John Drllrnger ssonbehrnd bars Hrs strong armed and weak brarned assrst ant was Bobby Hollomon Suddenlyl heard someone call Let s Dance' The orchestra leader was none other musrcran My frrst partner was Mattre Maude Jamreson who was marrred to Atlanta s most famous doctor After dancrng awhrle Iheard Mrllard s specralrty Drxre Land lrve The crowd formed a crrcle around a beautrful woman Lors Hutto who was a popular nrghtclub srnger and her husband the owner of the popular Owl Room the best known 1n Atlanta Betty Smrth s dutres as chref laboratory technrcran at Predmont Hosprtal rn Atlanta prevented her from attendrng the reunron After a delrghtful evenrng I pulled out my last dollar for a taxr I learned from the drrver that Owen Stapleton was the drstrrct manager of the Yellow Cab Co and was marrred to a very beautrful redhead hrs hrgh school sweetheart Before retrrrng I decrded to look at the paper Greetrng me on the front page was a prcture of a beautrful float on whrch was rrdrng none other than our Betty Rrchardson who had just returned from Atlantrc Crty wrth the trtle Mrs Amerrca On the sport page was a wrrte up and prcture of the Celtrcs world famous basketball team Therr star player was lack Ivey I had thoroughly enjoyed my contacts wrth the members of the class of 53 Sltttng agaln by the f1re my mrnd wandered back twenty tears to our days at R H S and 1 was soon asleep 14 ' I than Millard Gunnels who had finally mastered the clarinet and rose to fame as a great I l , 'I 9 ' '
