Mr. Wright as a young man. 3. Mr. Wright and his grandchildren. 4 Mr. Wright as superintendent of richland public schools. little would we realize that Mr. Wright traveled to high school by horse and buggy in columbus, wisconsin- and little would we imagine that Mr. Wright first taught in a mud schoolv for twenty-five dollars a month- from his small farm home in columbus, it was a few miles to laurence college, at appleton, wisconsin where he met his amiable wife. after two years at laurence college. Mr. and Mrs. Wright came out west to lynden. washington. teaching for a year, he soon became superintendent of schools in the same area. during this time as superintendent, he completed an ad- vanced degree at the university of washington. I prosser found Mr. Wright as superintendent for a number of years until the Wright's moved to snohomish. washing- ton. here he againlcted as superintendent of schools in that area, where they lived for twenty five years, raising their family. a san, Gordon. now heads the social science department. at the university of oregon, and a daughter, Anette is now residing in seattle with her family. it was but five years ago the Wlrighfs moved to richland anticipating a vital and youthful growth in the school system and the new city. after five years the growth has been spontaneous, much of it due to the sincere, creative hard work on the part of Nlr. Wright. nineteen-fifty-three will find our superintendent of schools retiring to his snake river home with his wife. to hunt and to fish and recall his past. intimate service to the edu- cation systems of the state of washington. faculty sketches done by Lorraine Murphy and Bill Lloyd, art student - 1 D . in ag., if J 0 . iffy' 4' 8 the school board is the governing power of the school district. in this small group rest many of the important decisions concerning education. the members of the board develop the policies for our high school as well as for all the other schools in district no. 400. this, in itself, is a difficult job, but it only one of the many that they must handle. the school hoard must also approve the appoint- ment of teachers and other personnel, and how we spend our budget. members are elected to the school board for a period of three years. the board meets twice a month and whenever the need arises for a special meeting. left to right: Mrs. Lex Mrs. Knostman, Mrs, Long.
