The glory of being a Iunior was realized by each of us. Some of the memorable events of the year were the Christmas Dance, the Golden Gate Revue, the Iunior-Senior picnic, and, of course, the Prom which was the most highly anticipated of all. We are especially proud of our Iunior athletes who have made a wonderful showing in every field of school sports. Sincere thanks go to our advisors, Mrs. Claar, Mrs. Ellis, and Mr. Welsch for their patience, guidance, and understanding during this busy year. The class leaders were Buz Iochen, President p Bonnie Murphy, Vice President g Margaret Buescher, Secretary, Ierry Marzyck, Treasurer. They, along with the planning committee, carried on the class business commendably. Velma Poole, Shanna Clements, and Ronald Hostetler were elected cheerleaders for the Freshmen Basketball team. Freshmen Princess of the Homecoming Dance was' Lois Loftus, while' Ioe Deymonaz reigned as Freshmen Prince of the Tolo Dance. Both boys and girls have been represented in many activities. The girls held their own in G.A.A., Tri-Hi-Y, F.H.A. and Girls' League, while the boys have been represented in Boys' Federation, F.F.A. and in sports. Contributing to the highlights of our year were Miss Christensen and Mr. Iuricich, our class advisors. They have really helped us in everything we have done. Haven't you heard them at all of the football, basketball and baseball games cheering the team On to victory? And Moe, haven't you seen them marching on the field or on the gym at half time? Why at the Valentine Day night game they marched in the dark with red flash lights. They formed a heart and blinked their lights while the band played Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Is that all they do? V11 Sports Shot-Juricich, Clements, Rish oottiafty The most successful season in modern Richland history will long be remembered. The Atom City's eleven of 1949 reached golden heights by capturing the Southern Division conference title. Seven able seniors were among those who comprised the first squad. They, along with the promise shown by the underclassmen, were good enough to win eight out of nine games and attain a state-wide rating of fifth. Don Fisher, Bill McCormick, Wilmer Meicen- heimer and Clarence Fulcher qualified for posi- tions on the All-Valley team Don Fisher went on to win honors, placing him on the All-State eleven. Kennewick was the opponent which broke the Bombers' streak of perfect defense at five games. They crossed the Bombers' goal line twice in the sixth contest on the Richland schedule. Coach Francis Rish and his assistants tutored the football team through every hardship and anxious moment and should receive due credit for their help which enabled the performance of the Richland team an outstanding one. 1949 SCHEDULE CONFERENCE STANDINGS Score Team Won Lost Tied Pct. Richland made a good ap- pearance, but were not quite lucky enough. They lost the two tourney contests they played to Hoquiam 63-62 and Mt. Vernon 41-40. Coach Dawald ably whipped the Bombers out of last season's slump when the Richland squad won only six games. Flashes of brilliance from Gene Keller, Frank Schermer and Alton Schell paced the Fly Boysu all the way. The Bombers went through league play without losing a single contest.
