Language Arts This year, English students were once again trained in the art of procrastination. All became experts in writing themes at the last possible minute. Besides theme writing, there were speeches to give and books to read. One change that the Language Arts Department had this year was the discontinuance of the elective program. All students had to enroll in a full year traditional English class. In the words of one English student, This was the most exciting year I’ve ever had! For reasons unknown, the student wished not to be identified. 1. English students vigorously pursuing their studies. 2. Esther Ivory thinks English is no laughing matter. 3. The past, the present, and the future. All these and more were studied by students in RHS’s Social Studies classes. Sophomores studied mainly America’s past for two trimesters, with the chance to get to the present during third trimester. Juniors studied the world's past for the first trimester and other world electives second and third trimesters. Seniors studied courses dealing with social problems in the past, present, and future. Special films and speakers enhanced the seniors’ classes. Psychology was a popular elective, captivating the minds of many seniors. Psychology students studied how people behave and even used operant conditioning on their fellow classmates. If anyone’s behavior changed this past year, he may have had a friend in Psychology conditioning them.
