The R.H.S. eleven of i957-i958 turned to the gridiron lacking experience but high on desire. The team found Themselves against tremendous odds in many games as they fought their way through the tough Lake Conference. Through determination and fire, the team finished the season with the respect and admira- tion of their followers and their opponents. The squad showed steady improvement in each game, and each successive foe found themselves faced with a more formidable opponent. By mid-season, the Spartans had reached their season peak. Against Robbinsdale, a four-touchdown favorite, the Redmen from Richfield came into their glory. The team completely dominated play throughout the furious- ly-fought battle, and the outcome was in doubt till the final gun. Although the R.H.S. team came out on the losing end of the score, they won a moral victory. After this great effort, the Spartans were unbeatable as they swept the final games of their schedule, ending up in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference. Special honors went to captain Dick Enga, Sherwood who were selected for the all- Knick, and Jim Kellog conference team. Enga was selected the Most Valuable Player in the Lake Conference by the coaches. The honor of a well-played season goes to the entire Richfield football team.
