Frenzied enthusiasm generated by the dynamic class competition resulted in a new student attitude toward school spirit. Top Left: juniors exerted all possible effort to win the Spirit Stick. Bottom Right: Rams of '75 promised a spirited future. i V'-wa t 113 pirit sparked by cheerleaders Arduous hours of practice and the endless creation of banners became all too familiar to the 1972-73 cheer- leaders. Though it proved to be hard work, they were re- warded by the most overwhelming Ram spirit in years. Top Left: Cheerleaders reflected Ram unity. The night held excitement for everyone but especially for Kathy Bradshaw who was crowned queen. Long hours and hard work resulted in a shimmering representation of the theme 'Atlantis.' Glittery mermaids and hundreds of tiny colorful fish decked the gymnasium at the unforgettable dance. Ecology changed from just a fad to a development of individual pride in one's en- vironment. Contributing to this change was the creation of the ecology flag, Captain Eco- Clark t-shirts, and the numerous planting projects. This involvement became Richfield's special contribution to a cleaner, brighter community. Lf 1 two plays attain success In the spring of '73, the Richfield Drama Depart- ment presented two excellent productions. 'Tem- pest,' a U.l.L. contest play was viewed by a group of students at a special assembly. Taken from Hello Dolly, 'Matchmaker' became Richfield's longest running play with its five night-stand. The theme, 'Those Were the Days.' consisted of huge film clips with silohuetted motion picture stars and spar- kling box radios. Created by members of the Social Committee and Art Department, memories passed before seniors' eyes. Four underclassmen described the meaning of the senior ring in the traditional ring ceremony. Council officers and council members put in many hours of work to complete projects for Richfield's benefit and pleasure. Beau- tification of the campus remained one of the council's chief goals as so did the making of Homecoming decorations. The Salvation Army received a large contribution of canned goods after a Student Council sponsored drive for the needy at Christmas time. Leo members donated S5100 for the Crippled Children's Ranch, S75 to the Cancer Society, and gave 550 to aid the school's ecology work. Helping to sell Christmas trees was Leo Club's Christmas project along with attending a party at the Eva- ngilia Home. They were inspired by Valentines Day to sell carnations. In the spring the club members sold Lions Park Discount Cards. The Rams Club consisted of cheerleaders and those people who had let- tered in a school sponsored sport. The efforts of Ram Club members added to the new surge of spirit felt at Richfield this year. In the spring the Ram Club enjoyed a year-end picnic. The band started the year at a disadvantage with the sudden resignation of Mr. Carl Cooper, the band di- rector. Mr. 1. E. Masters, Mr. Donald Balmos, and Mr. Norman Friedel pitched in to help the band present their half-time show. Mr. john Montgomery joined in with the band for the second semester as the new band director. Drum Majors Gail Geary and Judy Lessman led the band in the Heart of Texas Fair Parade and the Christmas Parade. Members showed their musical talents in contest at Temple and Baylor. This day also brought to a close Mr. Price's duties at the school as he was promoted to Athletic Coordinator of the Waco Schools. Mr. Price had come to Richfield when it first opened as head football coach and later as assistant princi- pal.
