At state conventions Latin students from all over Texas compete in various contests, such as costume, classi- cal mythology, and derivatives. The school which earns the highest number of points in these contests is awarded a sweepstakes trophy. By participation in state and national conventions, the JCL helps to pro- mote interest in the study of Latin. Vox Arietum. a magazine published by JCL members of Richfield High School, also promotes interest in Latin. The purpose of this magazine is to advance knowledge about Roman civilization through stories on Roman life, culture, and customs. 185
