RHS, floating down the field to the music of the school fight song, On Wisconsin, will be a memory equaled only lqy the singing of the Alma Mater. This year, for the first time, the formation was used as the finale to the band's show at interscholastic League Marching Contest. Movies of The Eagle Band at this contest are always requested by high school and college directors all over the United States. Left to right, are all-region members CSEATEDD Debbie Harlow, Sandra Sissel, and Karen Gantp QFIRST' ROWD Richard Musset, Jim Shubzda, Joey Frank, Timm Boatman, Joann Vance, Billie Good, and Diann Hendricks, CBACK ROWD David Ammerman, Bruce Reed, Phil Warren, Dickson Gunn, Kelbert Taylor, Mike Lynch, Robert Boyer, Between RHS and Lake Highlands High School, the Richardson bands made up one- fourth of the all-region band which drew stu- dents from as far east as Commerce, and south as Waxahachie. Another first for the Eagle band was its invitation to the University of Oklahoma band to perform at our halftime the weekend that they were in Dallas for the Texas-OU game. ln return for a great halftime performance, Richardson families took Sooners into their homes that Friday night. One of the banci's several civic contributions was their performance at the Veterans' Day cere- monies at Hillcrest Memorial. They participated in all Richardson parades and the annual State Fair parade, as well as playing at the grand opening of Northpark and the world premier of The Rare Breed. Q E Q if-M X -.. The Band girls' slum- ber party is an an- nual event to which seniors look forward with anticipation, but underclassmen, with foreboding. At any rate, all are united here, BOTTOM ROW of the pyramid Cl. to r.J is Marsha Rut- enbar, Jane Huston, Sandra Sharkey, SEC- OND ROW is Jill Geiger, Linda Huitt, and on top is King of the Mountain Sandra Sissel. If plans for the new auditorium work out as scheduled, the Eagle' Band has given its last concert in the gym, but there will still be many pep rallies to come which iust would not be the same anywhere but in the RHS gym. 28 . X Each year at the last home football game, the band honors the senior girl whom they wish to represent them as Band Sweetheart. This year's nominees were Debbie l-larlow, Margaret Okerberg, Sallie, Thompson, Jonathel Williams and Judy Worth. On the basis of- popular vote, Debbie Harlow was elected Sweetheart, and received the traditional roses, kiss, and ride around the stadium. Each band member devotes one afternoon a week to the rehearsal of his particular section. CPictured here is a combined low brass and cornet section. Band Adds More Firsts to Annual Events The Eagle band placed sixth in the All-state band this year, the most that any Texas High school put in. The students quali- fied by placing high enough in their sections at all-region to go to Area eliminations. At the All-State convention two bands were selected, the All-State Concert Band and All-State Read- ing Band. Of special note are Kelbert Taylor, who placed first in all the bassoons in Texas, and Billie Good, who was second in all the flutes. 3 Livia Simon of Buenes Aires, Ar- gentina, better known to many by her nickname, Pitzee, is living with Sue Stewart this year on the American Field Service program. The US is the fourth country with which Livia has ties, she was born in Italy where her parents were refugees from Hungary and has spent most of her life in Argentina. The following is her mes- sage to the natives of her fourth home : To come to Richardson was the greatest experience I ever had. Living the American style of life and sharing your ioys, hopes and sorrows makes me feel attached to 'you all.' I am going home full of happy memories and everlasting experiences. Vi M , When Hasi Scholing of Germany says, Americans are so great. Really! her sincerity makes each American want to live up to her opinion. Hasi is working in a German home and attending two classes here. Swedish Rotary student, Anne Gentzel, has entered into all phases of school life with enthusiasm: clubs, contests, and classes. She lives with the same family who hosted her sister Lena three years ago. r, a u AFSer Hanna-Liisa Valkeeiarvi from Pori, Finlathd, who is staying with Mary 'Margaret Halford, had the following to sayj about her, American year: Some 'people say that Finns don't believe before they see. This is the reason I came to America. I have to. throw aside my skeptical Finnish . mentality and adopt a strong belief that gthere is really something on this side ofthe Atlantic Ocean! , I have learned to love this people here. I have learned to think they are like we are, and we are like they are. This is the greatest experience I have ever had-to have Iearnecl to accept people over the world in spite of their differences.
