Although she has the demanding job as secretary to Mr. Miles, Mrs. Nicewarner always has a friendly smile. Mrs. Gursky is happy to give a student a pass back to class. Office secretary Mrs. Leather man cannot figure out whose name she left off the field trip attendance memorandum. Memos, bulletins and schedules keep the secretaries and nurses busy. Registrar Mrs. Roush does not find alphabetizing to be one of her favorite tasks. Office secretary Mrs. Reed finds out that the new switchboard is a time- saver as well as a space-saver.

Mrs. Merendino is happy because she has finished all of her typing early. A student informs school nurse Mrs. Henderson that her headache will be gone when the 2:20 bell rings. 22 • Faculty R.M.'s secretarial staff was certainly an indispens- able part of the school life. They formed the un- noticed machinery that kept the big wheels in the school running smoothly. Mrs. Roush prepared trans- cripts for R.M.'s college hopefuls and Mrs. Nice- warner kept the small problems of administration from bothering Mr. Miles. She was also busy adding decorative touches throughout the office and halls. The office secretaries typed bulletins while the guid ance secretaries arranged counseling appointments. School nurse Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Joyce, her aide, sorted out the really ill students from those with tests that day. Mrs. Joyce chuckles as she reads a student's note which explains her voiceless condition.

Mr. Crispeno explains the Maryland State Scholarship to senior Ernie Neal. Mrs. Oass finds a spare moment between appointments to make out a list of things to do. Ml m 81 KCIPJID An open ear and a sympathetic demeanor Kathy Cathers and Mr. Hull discuss social work as a possible career. Again this year, the guidance depart- ment successfully directed Richard Mont- gomery's students through their trials and tribulations. Mr. Crispeno, Mr. Hull, Mr. Horner, Mrs. Oass and Miss Smith attempted to solve every problem brought before them. They became acquainted with new sophomores, published an infor- mative monthly bulletin, warned students of test dates and helped solve personal problems. The amount of interest dis- played by students in using guidance office college materials was higher than in previous years. Many representatives from a wide assortment of colleges visited R.M. to interview prospective students. Repre- sentatives came from the F.B.I., NIH, GEICO and many companies and agencies to talk over employment prospects with R.M.H.S. students. For many, the counselors provided that extra boost that made possible a college acceptance or job placement 24 • Faculty
