Mrs. Merendino is happy because she has finished all of her typing early. A student informs school nurse Mrs. Henderson that her headache will be gone when the 2:20 bell rings. 22 • Faculty R.M.'s secretarial staff was certainly an indispens- able part of the school life. They formed the un- noticed machinery that kept the big wheels in the school running smoothly. Mrs. Roush prepared trans- cripts for R.M.'s college hopefuls and Mrs. Nice- warner kept the small problems of administration from bothering Mr. Miles. She was also busy adding decorative touches throughout the office and halls. The office secretaries typed bulletins while the guid ance secretaries arranged counseling appointments. School nurse Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Joyce, her aide, sorted out the really ill students from those with tests that day. Mrs. Joyce chuckles as she reads a student's note which explains her voiceless condition.

Mr. Holdsworth, Assistant Principal, explains to a student that you must sign your name to all tardy slips. Administration engineers changes at RM Miss Will, Assistant Principal, discovers that the line is still busy at the Board of Education. The most obvious change in the administrative staff was the departure of Mr. Reiff and the arrival of Mr. Holdsworth, formerly a graphic arts teacher. He and the other vice-principals, Mr. Vargo and Miss Will, handled the various school operations, such as announcements, assemblies, and attendance. Due to the new dress code, they no longer had to worry about which culotte-wearing girls should be sent home or which hirsute boy should be made to visit the barber. However, they still had the job of disciplining the many rule-breaking students. Mr. Vargo, Assistant Principal, takes time out from a busy schedule to talk with Jack Hansen.

Although she has the demanding job as secretary to Mr. Miles, Mrs. Nicewarner always has a friendly smile. Mrs. Gursky is happy to give a student a pass back to class. Office secretary Mrs. Leather man cannot figure out whose name she left off the field trip attendance memorandum. Memos, bulletins and schedules keep the secretaries and nurses busy. Registrar Mrs. Roush does not find alphabetizing to be one of her favorite tasks. Office secretary Mrs. Reed finds out that the new switchboard is a time- saver as well as a space-saver.
