Our Road to Understanding Social Studies is taught in many parts of our school. The chief purposes seem to be to indicate what good citizenship really is and to make us aware of our heritage. Here on the lower floor Mr. Stanley McFarland teaches our junior students U. S. History with the emphasis on political development. Just upstairs, Miss Will gives the seniors a survey of problems of democratic living. Freshmen study government in Mr. Mackin s second floor class.

English Skill, Tools for Thought Our school placed emphasis on creative and interpretive writing this year; English wasn’t so dull. We delved into phases of English and American literature. College preparatory students read works by the accepted masters while in other classes the emphasis was on modern writers. Above all, we became more aware that English serves as a useful tool. Miss Smith taught us to compose forceful letters. Mr. Jeffery helped us to interpret meaning in plays like Our Town.

Trig, and Solid Geometry students have worried over problems involving cosigns, tangents, and secants in Mr. Coblentz’s room on our main floor.
