f - 'rx'-:fra--. ,, , Y . E - 't' -f f '!H' THE ROCKET l934 Class Prophecy l HAD just turned over in my bed in the Governor's Mansion of the fifth district of Mars, when a dreadful roaring over my home let me know that there was no more sleep in store for me. I got up and I looked out of the window and saw the latest 1954 model of the P. P. P. CPlanet-to-Planet Planej launched at my front door. A red-headed gentleman stepped out, helped out a charming lady, and then came up to the door. I opened it and began, How do you --- well, jimmy! Of all people ! Yes, it was James White, the old president of the Rockville junior Republic and present ruler of Saturn. My wife and I have just stopped by to take you for a ride in my new plane, said Jimmy. I turned and saw dear old Hester Vetter smiling up at me. Just a minute, I replied. It's right warm today. I'll put on my sun-proof dress. I was ready in a jiffy and soon Jimmy, Hester, and I were making our way to Venus. Booty Wilson, Helen Howard, Lorraine Dronenburg, and Joe Henderson are living over here, said Hester. -Ioe's running for dictator. Booty is Secretary of Ballot-Box Stuffing, so I think Joe will win. What are Helen and Lorraine doing? I asked, eager to learn the fate of my former classmates. Well, of course, Helen is married to a handsome brunette and living peaceably at home. Lorraine is Netro-Holdwyn-Gayer's leading star. Television has offered her a contract, but she prefers the screen. Helen was television's chief crooner before she married Bill. ' Do any other of our classmates live here P I eagerly inquired, as our plane gracefully landed on Venus. t Oh, yes! Marian Lohr and Emma VVootton are teaching the Venusites basketball. Hope Isherwood gives lessons on how to avoid catching one's teeth in the baskets. You see, these people are so tall that their mouths come up to the top of the baskets. There are some others here, but I'll let you see them for yourself. We went first to Venus' leading department store. The first person I saw was Dorothy Creamer who was giving free lectures on reducing. She was explaining the mystic properties of Thinno, but few people listened since the Mae West vogue was still dominant. Anne Bailey was speaking on the new bridge system. Uncidentally, Aime and her sister, Betty, were the champion contract players of the universe, so quite naturally, there was a huge crowd around her.j We stopped long enough to say Hello and to learn that Grace Baker was in the next aisle, explaining the value of cosmetics. We listened to Grace for a short time and then we went out to lunch. Who do you suppose was running the restaurant? None other than Bill Floyd and Joe Starkey. They even had a floor show on during the lunch hour! We discovered 21
