Every year the Byrd Student Council exchanges students with another school for a day. The purpose of this is to gain insight about our school in comparison to other jr. highs. The day is always one filled with meeting new people and seeing how other schools operate. A communi- ty activity in which the Byrd Council takes part is High Challenge. Every week our representa- tives go over to Salk Elementary and help indi- vidual students develop their early skills. An- other project includes helping the needy families of the Tulsa area. This year 515468.00 was raised and over 1,500 cans of food. The Oklahoma Association of junior High Student Council Convention is held each year to gain an understanding of other schools and to put the idea of student democracy into practice on a state wide basis.
