We have selected as a theme, Opening the Door to a Challenge. In developing this theme we ask our¬ selves what is it that sets our school apart? What indefinable quality places it among those at the top? Our school does instil in the students a desire to excel and we recognize the encourage¬ ment which we have gained in developing our very best. As we profit from unlimited educational opportunities we become a contributing member of society. Each year brings new ideas, new experiences, and new goals. These influence the molding of each student into a complete individual, a repre¬ sentative of the overwhelming challenge of Rich Valley High. We are attempting to show in pictures and in words what this last year means to us. Our 1960 Lasso is more than just a record of the school and its activities. It is something more than a book of memories; it is our inspiration and guide not only for this year, but for many yet to come. As we look through the pages many times, the faces will remind us of the encouragement and inspiration we have received each day. We hope to preserve the many wonderful experiences lived at our Rich Valley High. With this thought in mind, Opening the Door to a Challenge, begin looking over our book. May it mean to you many helpful ideas for happy living! The 1960 Seniors 7 y r r i- 1 c lilsh ' , iii r- j.. wiy I I A group of Seniors getting some ideas about the organization of our year book. Here we caught Sonny Bette, Shirley, Deanna, Nyoka, Mary Ann, Paddie, Jim, Cecil, andRonnie talking about our challenges. Mr. Cochran inspiring a number of Seniors to make the most of this year. 7 3 Girls take exercise in Physical Education class to develop physical fitness. Students learn how to live together and how the government functions in their senior government class. 9 10 1 1 1 12 Washington Trip Committee We want to visit our Capital City! One of the outstanding projects of the Senior Class is to plan money raising events, study our tour, and work toward the realization of this dream. We organize our class in many committees to see this one challenge become a reality. We operated the Snack Bar, sponsored a movie, a supper, sold candy, helped with the Beauty Pageant, and presented a play in order that we could make this trip. What are the challenges? We want to know our Capital City in order to understand our government. The following places will be visited: The Capital, Congress, White House, The Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Supreme Court, the Art Galleries, and memorials such as the Washington Monument, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Lincoln, Jefferson, and Iwo Jima. We want to share these experiences with others in order to help our government to grow into the kind of nation we want it to be. 13 DEDICATION DEDICATION The I960 Lasso is dedicated to a member of the Rich Valley High faculty, Mr. Joseph F. Crabtree. Through each challenge he has inspired us to do more efficient work. In conquering these challenges we have acquired respect and admiration for him as a person and as a teacher. The seniors take great pride in presenting this our yearbook to Mr. Joseph F. Crabtree. 14 Mr. Buchanan giving dictation to his secretary, Miss Johnson. You have accepted the challenge that was presented to you in this pub¬ lication. In doing this you have demon¬ strated a desire to work, have shown evidences in being a good citizen, and have cooperated in the school ' s activi¬ ties. I challenge you: to be a leader in your field of endeavor, to explore the un¬ known, to be an outstanding citizen, to continue to grow morally and spirit¬ ually, to develop and maintain a happy home, and to make some contribution to society. I wish you happiness and success. Mr. Eugene DeBord Assistant Principal 16 Not Fail) Crime, Mr. Cochran re but Low Aim is Glena Gardner The Easiest person to deceive is one ' s self. There have been many forces to inspire, to encourage, and to guide us to a happier life. But the last one, the challenge of selection, has been before us constantly. We must learn to weigh things, to evaluate, and to come to worthwhile decisions in selecting that which is best.
