Bret Harte. We, the class of fifty, have spent four years amid these halls in search of knowledge, a way of life, and a better adjustment. We deem it a privilege and an oppor¬ tunity not grasped by every student who enters the folds of this institution. As we move on to the last scene of our performance, we realize that graduation day is close at hand. We stop to reminisce over the days spent here. Quickly it comes to us that this act of life is only a portion of the drama that is yet to be unrolled. It is our part to play the events as best we can, for a lot depends upon our own will. All scenes are played in the performances of life and wo must decide whether it will be a comedy or a tragedy. As we are told Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. ' Hoping that this presentation will bring back fond memories of happy days spent at dear ole’ Rich Valley, we present the LASSO of 1950. The Staff of ’50. The highlights of this year were winning first in Stunt Night, having two of the freshmen girls represent the school in the county beauty contest, and choosing Janie Gillespie as annual queen. Our sponsors were Miss Virginia Buchanan and Mr, Harlan Pafford, In 19 7 forty-five of the ninety-two found themselves as sopho¬ mores with Miss Helen Callihan as sponsor. The others of the group dropped by the wayside in their freshman year. This year many of us joined clubs and became members of the athletic teams. After the vacation of this year we came back to school as juniors. This year eleven new students joined our class from Tannersville and this made an enrollment of forty-seven, Mr, P. M. Eversole was sponsor of our class. The outstanding event of this year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. We also bought our class pins, bracelets, and necklaces. Think I September 1, 19l4-9 were dignified seniors. We were very glad to find Mrs. M. M. Lewis as our sponsor. Alven Ward, Ruben Gillespie, and Donald McCready volunteered to join us. Charles Ver¬ million, a post graduate, also wished to come back to seek further work. Three of our boys were chosen for the All-County football team. The girls of this class have won the softball tournament for the past three years and hope to win this year. Out of our present fifty- one members five started together in the first grade. O ' Ur members have been outstanding in sports, club organizations, and in publishing the school paper. We are looking forward to receiv¬ ing our rings and to participating in the commencement activities. The senior play is to be our initial opening of commencement activities. Our four years in high school have been happy ones. We have en¬ joyed the close friendships which we have made and the experiences which have caused us to appreciate life. It is with regret that we approach the end of our high school career. jk Betty Whitley I 54 I PROPHECY (%t. .cuM SJu One cold afternoon in January as I was reclining by the hearth- I side gazing into the leaping flames, a weird scene began to take place before my startled eyes. Large silvery rain drops began to fall. As one large drop floated down it seemed as if I could see outlines of a familiar object in the sparkling rain drop. Entranced, I took a halt- j ing step forward. Oh, now it’s clear I that’s dear ole R. V. High. As ' the door opens I take a hurried glance Inside. Are my eyes deceiving ' me? Nay, Eugene Hess is really the principal. He tells me lie also ; teaches English and that Buddy Henegar’s the professor of psychology. | Hearing a soft whistling I glance up and here comes Alven Ward with ; his books under his arm. Glancing into a classroom I see Betty Whitley | teaching Latin class. [ Another tiny drop is opening and there is a radio station. The announcer for station I. 0. U. is Malcolm McAllister and the pretty little lady rehearshing is Eunice Ollnger. As this drop glides to the ground in another I see reflected a beautiful church. Whose is that beautiful voice that I hear? Why, it’s Dallas McAllister, a preacher. A gentleman tells me that the stylishly dressed ladles in the choir are Mary Va. Coe, Eunice Catron, and Kathleen French. As this drop passes, the scene is on a fashionable street. The men advancing down the street are none other than James Harris, Glenn Surber, and James Taylor, Fuller Brush salesmen. They knock on a door of a beautiful’ cottage. The door is promptly opened by Melba Bowling and Eunice Tur-, ley, who are. now married and making fine housewives. They atart to slam the door but recognizing the men they cordially Invite them in. ' My, that’s a queer drop. I wonder what it contains. Oh, there’sR Eugene Blevins, Clarence Kinder, Ruben Gillespie, and Roy Barrett with a strong of old hound dogs. I see Dorothy Bice, Pearl Roland, and Hi Juanita Dillman are pictured as beauticians. It seems Settle Tate Tay¬ lor and A. B. Taylor have teamed up together and now have a two-manij! basketball team. What’s this? A newspaper, and who’s the editor? My old friend, Roscoe Kestner with his associate editors, Jean Jones and Jean Burgess. The paper is very entertaining. I read that Misses Agnes Maloyed, Carrie Call, and Louise Buchanan went frog hunting Sun- li ' O day. Turning to the comic section I see two familiar names of the authors, Agnes Call and Helen McAllister. As this rain drop vanishes 5e another follows in quick seccesslon and in it I see a lovely little lady, Phyllis DeBord. It seems that she is keeping close watch on a tgoth-pick factory where Charles Vermillion, Don McCready, Eugene Gil- . lesple, and Lois Carter are employed. This little rain drop tells meHsi that Jane Gille sple and Janie Griffltts have the two leading parts in ' a movie and their costume designer is Clara Necessary. Oh, the rain drops are falling all about me. Here comes a white drop which reminds me of a hospital. It really is a hospital and there beside the oper- ating table are Gunnar French, the doctor, and his nurses, Patsy Frye, Alma Kegley, and Kathleen Doane. I see four secretaries, Betty Martin, Marie Taylor, Helen Heath, and Mary Evelyn Coe are engaged in business. Charles Crabtree and Douglas-Maloyed have gone into the farming busi- 8 ness in Brazil. % At last the final rain drop disappeared and I realized that I was ,, still sitting by the fire. For it is our wish that in the next few years to come many of our dreams and realizations may come true. Dreajns which were visioned within these walls may soon be taking shape. It takes a vision of the future to prevent groping in the dark Our play was built on a true plot of everyday life, V e hope you have received as much pleasure in viewing it as we did in pre¬ senting it. It is our hope that when in future years you glance through these pages, your heart will be warmed with these golden memories, Good-bye, and may our paths cross many times in the future, ’’One ship drives east, another west. By the self same winds that blow, ’Tis the set of the sail, and not the gale. That determines the way they go. Like the winds of the sea are the ways of Pate As we voyage along thru life.
