One cannot point his finger at the cause for this letdown, but this type of occurance is not uncommon in athletics when a team plays an abbreviated schedule. The team initiated its season by winning three out-of four nonconference games, but they could not find the same success in the tough SWS Conference. ln con- ference play the team compiled a 41f2'91f2 record. ln IHSA District action, the team opened with a 1-0 victory over Marian, but they were shutout by Bloom 'l0-0. ln an earlier encounter the Rockets had beaten Bloom 5-3. Throughout the season, the Rockets were paced by the fine pitching of Bob Martin. The fine mound staff also in- cluded Dan DeCaprio, Tom Sullivan, and John Roberts. Other leading performances came from shortstop Bob Hoglund, second baseman Scott Peterson, first baseman Larry McCarren, and outfielder George Scanlan.
