Ia molinera de arcos La Molinera de Arcos, a dramatic adaptation of the novel EI Sombrero de Tres Picos by Pedro Antonio de Alarcon, was presented for six consecutive performances in November by the Spanish National Honor Society. lt was possibly the only time a high school group in the United States presented a full, three-act production in Spanish, according to Dr. Harry E. Babbitt, SNHS sponsor. Very few college companies even attempt such a produc- tion entirely in Spanish. The play, adapted for the stage by Aleiandro Casona, ran November l9-23 in the East Social Hall to standing room only audiences. Six packed performances drew ap- proximately l800 people. Roughly fifty-two different school groups, some from as for as Galesburg, Illinois and parts of Indiana, attended the fall production. La Molinera de Arcos was chosen as the SNHS's 1968-69 fall play during the previous spring. It went into rehearsals as school resumed in September. The play was sponsored by Dr. Babbitt and directed by Martin Soloway. The profits from the play created numerous scholarships for members of the SNHS to study in Mexico. A total of twelve students will benefit from these scholarships. Sev- eral Spanish students made a study trip to Mexico in De- cember and more will study for six weeks this summer, due to play profits. 114
